Hi All, This is our first caravan and haven't been away in it yet, although we are booked up for May day weekend and cannot wait. We went to the storage place yesterday to check it over and I made a point of checking the tyre pressures. According to the owners manual, for our model, the tyre pressures should be 3.75 bar / 54 psi on 175 R13 6 ply tyres. To me this sounds very excessive although it must be correct. Is this pressure pretty much the normal on caravan tyres? It's really just peace of mind.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Wizard, the van is a 1998 model and weighs in at 932kg ex works / 1182kg Max Auth weight.

First 54psi is also is the maximum pressure for this size and type of tyre which should have a load index number of 94 representing 1340kg per pair of tyres. For caravan use the tyre manufactures advise reducing this by 10% giving a new maximum weight of 1210kg at 48psi per pair.

Your van at 1182kg sits nicely under this at a pressure of  46/7psi

Hi Degsytroy , my caravan has a mptlm of 1160kg and i run my 6 ply 175 R13  tyres at 46 / 47 psi . 54 psi does seem a bit high to the weight of your caravan .
