Hi have recently bought a swift rapide 440 van 1991 and can't find the switch to change the power supply from battery to mains electric.Have searched the van- any one got any idea where it is?A reply would be much appreciated. Thanks Judith

Hello and Welcome

Don't know about the Swift but on our Elddis there isn't such a switch.  The 12v and 240v run side by side.  the 240v charges the battery constantly.  The 240v stuff just works as soon as you hook up.

Cant think what switch you are referring to Judith. 12v. items (eg. lights etc) run off the battery, while the kettle , heater etc run off the mains, but they are two completely different systems.

Thanks Leanne- if you disconnect the battery while the mains is plugged in does the electric go off ?

The things which are 12volt won't work if you don't have a battery connected.  In our caravan most of our lights are 12v (only 2 are 240v) they only work off the battery - so no battery no 12v lights, no water pump etc.  the things which are 240v will work without a battery in ours but thats not much - fridge, 2 x lights and sockets.

If you have a combined battery charger/12v transformer type thing in your van then the 12v items will work even if you do not have a battery in place.
