Hi, I once asked this question and the response was an absolute "yes" as the gas system needs to be checked, due to the possible movmement when the units being towed, it can be subject to leaks etc.

As for the other items that would bew covere....theres probably nothing there that you couldnt do yourself if yu are relativley mechanically minded. Halfords sell a caravan manual which could be useful for these items.

I wouldnt recommend omitting the gas checks under any circumstances....

I have to agree with Matty about the gas unless your a registered gas engineer I would take your van for a service.  Last year our 1992 van need new brakes so well worth the service the gas was ok as was everything else.  Its like anything if you look after it then you won't be faced with bigger problems down the line.
