I have never fitted a filter housing but after you remove it from the van you need to remove the remaining mastic from the caravan by using white spirits and a cloth

you need some of the W4 caravan mastic on a roll, normally available from your local caravan dealers and carefully stick this to the lip on the housing where it will contact the caravan body, trim off any overlapping mastic, pull off the white protective tape from the mastic then offer it up to the aperture and bobs your uncle, a little tip when refitting the screws is to wet the tips in your mouth as this helps the screw go cleanly through the mastic

Did this on my old ABI, Had to hunt around breakers to get another, couldnt get a one so had to fit a new one , dont despare though they do a plate that fits around the new one to fil the large hole.

I used the mastic on a roll then finished it off with a tube of siliflex to make sure it was water tight.

Carver changed from the mk1 Crystal filter to the mk2 in the early 90's, the difference is easy. With the mk1 the pump lives behind a little flap in a (dirty) blue box, while the mk2 has a bigger flap and the pump is removable for storage. To complicate matters a little, since Truma took over the 'Carver Crystal 2' became just the 'Truma Crystal', nevertheless they are still identical

If indeed you have the old mk1 then to change over you need; the new housing, an adaptor plate to fill the old hole and a plug to modify your pump lead and make it removable.

Some dealers do not stock the pump plug, instead insisting you need a complete pump at £35 ouch..so be wary unless your old pump is on it's last legs.

Changing over is very straight forward but a useful tip is this: If you are using a Jubilee clip to secure the internal pipe?, then push the pipe and clip fully on the stem close to the housing. The reason is there is a non-return valve in the end of the stem which won't work correctly if the Jubilee clip distorts the roundness of the stem.

You have cracked your old housing though, I would then guess you already have the later filter? so most of the above will not be relevant. To stop the new one cracking always use a little 'Silicone grease' on the seal and threads or if nothing else use cooking oil. NEVER use Vaseline!!

I think you are looking at a mk3 which had a short life as Carver soon reverted back to the mk2. The door of this type has a rounded middle much like a 'power bulge' in a car bonnet!! They are a direct replacement size wise for a mk2 but take a different filter and plug for the pump both of which cause trouble.There are plenty of these on Ebay at the moment but I would not recommend getting one as they are as obsolete as the mk1 and as said cause problems in use.

I see the problem and it's an optical illusion, the 'Carver' lids are just old stock

The Truma units shown are direct replacments so the only problem you have is choosing the colour

Got a filter housing and fitted it. So easy, thanks for the help and tips. The W4 mastic tape is great stuff.
