Hi Emmo, I got the PDF thanks it's a really good guide and will be printed off to help when the time comes. Will it ever come though can't believe it's raining every day even forecast for next week..!
I see what your saying about only certain areas, I'll definately only replace what is absolutely necessary (feeling spongy to the touch is going to be my gauge).
I kept my caravan under a tarpaulin that I purchased from B&Q , it was a lightweight blue type and it was 5MX4M i think it was only about £9 and well worth the money.
I remember when we first found out about the rear corner breaking as we were in Scotland and I had to tow the van home with a broken corner down spar, boy was the caravan lively it was if everything was loaded badly and very very jittery ,I ended up creating a very heavy nose weight to help stabilize the unit just to get it home so my advice would be o, once you cut the frame don't move the caravan.
hi i live manchester its probably too far but my brother in law got a reasonable quote from a place c and s caravans inaccrington he tried a few places and got some ridiculous quotes if you dont think your up to doing the job yourself (i know we woulddnt not that good like some guys on here) it might be worth giving them a ring I know they charge £20 for damp test to assess the work but if you have it done they told me they take it off the cost >Iknow how you feel ewe are taking our 4yr old avondale back to dealers its full of damp in the toilet we are exchanging van but its costing us £800 for the changeover what van do you have
hi dont despair repairing damp areas is not as daunting as it may first seem. my husband and i were given a 1972 Europa off his mother ( i think she just wanted it off her lawn and wasnt prepared to pay for it to be collected for scrap ) we knew it would need work, new seat covers curtains a lick of paint etc but we were wrong it was terrible, the ceiling was a bubble where it was full of water the walls were soggy and the crossbars were rotten. at this point we had already booked our holiday (we were originally taking a tent) and we were determoned it would not beat us and we only had 10 weeks to put it all right BUT WE DID IT... we first sealed ervery are on the outside and then started taking the inside to bits, we replaced every wall that needed it and we managed to completely dry out the ceiling, hubby rebuilt the seats and i mad new curtains and seat covers, we then repainted the van and laid new lino, we had the gas checked and the old mantles taken out and electric put right through. we finished the van with a couple of days to spare so enouh time to pak and be on our way. we were so proud of our van it was a wonderful holiday especially when we got back i found i was pregnant with our first child. we have since upgraded our van but will never forget the first van we had.
