We have just purchased a 2004 Lunar Delta 520/2 caravan. Having picked the van up from the dealer we took it away to try everything etc. Using an Aquaroll for water, the pump is very very noisy - really loud and rattling noise. The dealer said that unfortunately with this type of pump, they are noisy but the water pressure is the plus point - really good pressure. Has anyone come accross this situation and what did they do to cure it?
The pumps are normally noisy if they have not been primed properly. I normally bang the pump up and down as it is running in the full aquaroll to dispel any air that is stuck.
Does your pump stop when the taps are closed or is it running on?
If its not stopping there will be an inline pressure switch to adjust to switch the pump off when the taps are shut. Mine is next to the water heater.

Are you my Mum?
sorry if you are not but my parents are having the same problem with a fairly new lunar delta. The local caravan centre keeps telling them it is normal. It can't be really can it.

I will be taking great interest in the comments with this thread, as we have just come back from a weeks break in our van and the waterpump would start and stop on its own, even during the night! I am sure I primed the submersable pump properly when I first set up, is it still possible to have an air lock even when you have re-filled the aquaroll a few times? On a plus point, at least the pump is not noisy,

Thanks Biosdoctor and Sshooie for the information. We have now solved the problem...there was no onboard water tank! The previous owner had removed it but the dealer hadn't noticed. This is the first van that we have had with an onboard tank and so we didn't know where to look for one anyway! When we discovered the severity of the situation - pressure was applied to the dealer and the situation was resolved when they agreed to fit a tank which has now been done. The pump is now a lot quieter, not as quiet as an external pump but the pressure of the water is good.
Martin - Have you an on-board/internal water tank with a valve adjacent to it? If so, it sounds as though you have a leak somewhere and the pressure is dropping, causing the pump to cut in & out in order to maintain the pressure.
We have picked up the van from the dealer today, but before accepting the van back we asked for and got a full working demonstration of the onboard water system. The pump is a lot quieter but until we take the van on site somewhere we won't know if the pump is cutting in during the night. The fitter at the dealer said the you will need to turn the hot taps on until the water runs freely when you first set up - I would think from that info that there is something not quite right if your system is cutting in during the night. Did you turn the water heater off during the night? Possibility being that a small amount of water has evaporated and hence the pump cuts in to top up. This used to happen with our Lunar Venus if we left the water heater on overnight.
Eddie12 No we don't have an onboard tank, just the waterheater.
Christyan I think when I first hitched I ran the Cold tap until the water ran free, having then read through the operators manual I realised that it should have been the Hot tap, but as this was two days into the holiday I assumed any trapped air would have by now gone. I must remember to read the manual each time I start as I am still new to this game, as these thing are not yet fully installed on my mind. In regards to your last question, yes we did leave the water heater on during the night, we left it on all day time as well, maybe this is the problem. Do you just turn the heater on prior to needing/wanting hot water?

In reply to your question about using the heater only when we want hot water - the answer is no, but with our Lunar Venus we used to leave it on all day and turn it off at night. That stopped the pump cutting in during the night. The fitter at the dealer we bought the Delta from suggested that we turn the hot water heater off if the van is unattended during the day. He also said that you should be aware of the need to turn the heater power supply off when finishing your holiday because if the hot water tank is empty the heating element will burn out very quickly if you happen to couple up to an electric supply for any reason. He also said that you should run the taps - plural. Now, whether that includes the shower I don't know. During our demo with them on Saturday 03/06/06 they only ran the kitchen and bathroom sink hot taps.
Christyan, thanks for the info it is a great help, I was talking to a workmate today and asked him what he did with his waterheater, he has a Bailey and said he turned it on first thing in the morning ready for the breakfast washing up and then turned it off until it was needed again, usually not until the next morning. I will now only be turning my switch on when needed and making sure it is off during the night. As for turning the shower tap on, I assume if you are not going to use the shower at all, then this would not need to be disturbed during the priming process,

PS. When we were away last week, we stayed on the C.C site at Pembery Country Park near Llanelli and is highly recommended.
