Can anybody help. every time i go to open a window on the van the window seal sticks to the window and i have to be careful not to rip the seal when opening it if you follow my meaning. I was told to use olive oil but that after a few days doesn't seen to work, any ideas what will.

Hi Mickey,
are the window seals grey or black? When I first got my current van, the seals were the grey rubber, and like yours, had stuck and ripped open when I opened the windows.
However, I had seen posts on here on that subject, and apparently the grey 'rubber' is well-known for perishing/sticking/cracking like this. Various suggestions were offered; some olive oil, some vaseline, some talcum powder or french chalk, but the general opinion was - get rid and replace with the black rubber seals! The black does not perish or stick, you can get the stuff from most caravan dealers, and it's (fairly) easy to do - have a look at Als Parker's site and go to the 'sealing windows' section - following this advice, even I managed to do it!

Hope this helps,

Gram

Hi I am getting the same problem with the black window seals on my van. If I try and open the front windows I need to go outside and slide my fingers under to release the seal from the window before it will open. The van is only six years old I would have expected the seals to last longer than that. Any other suggestions on how to stop this my last van had the gray seals and I replaced these but that was over 15 years old and they had gone brittle.

Hi there,

We too had the same sticking problem on our last caravan which also had the black rubber type seal. We cured the problem by simply cleaning the inside on the window (paying special attention to the edge where it meets the rubber) with WD40, not only does it clean your windows better than you've ever seen, but it also coats the window with a thin invisible non-stick layer which makes it far less likely to stick to the rubber seal, do this once every couple of month's and it should virtually solve the problem. (use a very soft clean cloth to clean them...never use kitchen roll or dirty cloths as they can scratch the window)

If the problem persists then it may be worth trying one of the various chemicals available from hardware/DIY stores that cleans and restores rubber.

If both of the above fail and you have already tried all of the tips already suggested, then it looks like new seals are the way to go.

all the best.

Cleaning the window with WD40, thats a new one to me! Might give it a try, not sure about the smell though.

My window rubbers always stick. I am just careful how I open them and Iv'e never torn them!
