I don't know if anyone can shed any light on this. I have a 2005 Bailey Ranger 470/4. 2 days ago and in preparation for a 2 week holiday, the van was connected to 240v to charge the battery etc.

When checking the on board volt meter yesterday it was showing 10 volts and there was not enough to power the motor mover. The battery has a colour glass on top which was showing green meaning fully charged.

Today, I have put a battery conditioner/charger onto the battery for a few hours which gave a reading of 12 volts. On returning the battery to the van, the meter again showed 10 volts.

Could it be that the battery needs replacing after 2 years despite it telling me that it is fully charged?

Putting the battery on charge for a few hours wouldn't imo put enough charge into the battery , it would be better to leave it on charge for 12 hours at least. A fully charged 12volt battery should read 12.7volts .
Make sure that your caravan charger is working , check the battery meter voltage when you have the caravan connected to 240v ( hook-up ) it should be showing 12.5 volts or more.

No, the lights are extra with the bailey, but they do come with gas mantles.

You might find that once it is hooked up to your car the battery will charge okay.

Cokey,

We had the same problem.  The way to check whether your battery or battery charger is faulty is to disconnect the battery completely and make sure the terminals are not touching.  Hook up into the 240V mains.  Your volt meter in the caravan should show 12 or 13 volts without the battery in situ.  If it does not then it is likely the battery charge unit within the caravan is faulty.  We rang up the dealer, one was posted to us straight away and we replaced it ourself.  Very easy to do should this be the problem.

Thanks to all that replied and apologies for the delay in replying myself. Just got back from a 2 week stay at Tregarton Park in Cornwall and Dornafield in Devon.

It turned out that the battery was a dud. I spoke to the man at Mount Caravans in London Apprentice who told me to see if the battery was bulging at the sides as this was a sure sign. Sure enough, it was and I replaced it with one from Buyrite Tyres in Newton Abbot who I would recommend.
