As I am new to caravaning, can anyone tell me if it is ok to leane this heater on all the time, or should it be switched off after the water has got hot.
I think the idea is that you leave it on all the time so that you always have hot water. I wouldn't want to have to wait 20 minutes everytime I wanted hot water. The way I understand it, the heater bursts into life when the water goes below the set temperature or when you use some and it is refilled with cold. I still marvel at the fact that you can have hot water in a caravan moving up, as I have, from an old van with a hand pump for cold water.
leave it on all the time as it has a thermostat that keeps the water at the right temp by going on and off, you should hear the water just starting to boil then the thermostat cuts and it stops, then it cools and you hear the heater heating again, just leave it on

I would hope that the gas burner and or electric element was switching off automatically well before boiling point, 60-70C is correct and near boiling point a serious fault. However if such high temperature are reached over temperature safety feature again automatically cut in and shut the heater down.
Other than that yes it's designed to be left on and it will safely look after itself
