I have several butane gas bottles in my garage aswell as several on my van.
Anyway, tha plan is to trade them and get 2 of the new lightweight bp ones, plus adaptors.
Due to cost of the outlay, goes anyone know if i can get a refund on these non used butane bottles as i know when you buy a gas bottle, you always pay a deposit for the bottle.
Hi Scott,
The "deposit" is cleverley actually a hire agreement, which has a sliding scale of value.
First, there is no return value on unused gas.
Second, there is no deposit return without the "rental" agreement and even then after 3 years (I think) there is no return value for the cylinder.
I'm afraid that the odds are stacked firmly in Calor's favour!
Mike
We thought that we could do the same when we were changing from our trailer tent to our caravan. We have a large bottle that we wanted to swap for 2 smaller bottles. My OH took them to Tesco and was told that we would have to take out 2 new contracts for the smaller bottles. I think it was something like £30 ea?
I ended up getting 2 smaller ones from the Friday Ad for £10 and the large one will be sold with the trailer tent.
If you want a gas bottle the best way without having to pay a "deposit" is the local car boot sale. That is where we have got our last ones from and the cost us about four quid each. Rob.
Hi, I have swapped two large bottles for 7kg ones this week at a calor depot, They told me it's no problem swapping between sizes all you need is a empty bottle .
------------- Doing as little as possible for as much as possible...
major problems last week.the gas ran out.i knew our gas bottle was gogas and there was no way the warden would change for a calor bottle.he was very good though he rang round and found a dealer in gogas,it was only 5 miles away.SO if you can get an empty bottle make sure its a calor one.he exchanged it for a shell gas bottle, when empty the problem starts again.the gogas dealer also sold calor gas.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

I had a problem, both small ones were empty and the garage had run out of that size. After a lot of discussion and as they know me they let me have a larger bottle on the proviso I swap it back for a smaller one when it's empty!
Watch out when buying from a boot sale, I saw some on offer a few weeks ago - in sizes that Calor no longer do, they must have been yonks old!!
We had to change our bottles recently when we got the new van, but I dont think we were charged for it, we just bought the bigger bottle. Not sure if they still charge the "deposit". Although I do know in the 30 odd years we've been using, buying and exhanging Calor bottles - we've never yet had any form of refund from them at all.
I sell calor, and there is no problem swopping one size for another when you buy your refil, your contract is for a bottle not the size, you can go from a 7kg to a 47kg all you are buying is the gas in it
the morrisons station near me has a little price chart on the counter for the refills etc, suprisingly the deposit/hire/whatever is the same no matter what size bottle it is, just differant between, butane, propane and patiogas, so you should be able to swap sizes

not being silly ken can i swop a 47kg for a 7kg a friend moving house says he has a large empty bottle for free?it will save my embarrassment when i go to change it.ta
