Hi, was wondering if anybody could help? I have a CI Sprite Compact caravan and have just brought a new 100 Amp/h battery. It runs 3 10W lights, tha cold water pump and I also have a small 8 inch LCD tv. Any idea how long it would run for on average usage?

Hi there and welcome to UKCS.

I'm sure without the TV the battery would last you a week easily, but not having used a 12V TV i could'nt say how much power they consume, If you use it conservatively i'm sure the battery will last the week.

Only one way to find out really.

Thanks for that! The tv is actually a playstation 2 with a built in screen and a tv adapter so I have no idea what its draw would be? I figured the Battery would be up to the job, oh I also have connected a Solar trickle charger that you would normally have in a car thats stored so I'm hoping my lights shouldn'n go dim!!!

Hi break it down as follows:
each light will use 0.85 amps
Water pump 5amps say
TV/PS2 Perhaps 7 amps

So using the TV/PS2 constantly and nothing else you might get 100/7=14hrs of play.

The calculations are rough as when the battery starts to drain the appliances will suck even more power.  The calculation above with the telly doesn't allow for this.  it also assumes the battery is in peak condition.
If working it out myself i'd knock 25% off the time I think the battery is going to last to be on the safe side.

With careful use you should get a week out of that battery.  We get just short of tha out of hours and the kids love telly/dvd when they are waiting for food.  Have you got it set up to charge from the car when being towed?  If you have it will be a easy way to top it up when on site if needed.

Before mains electrics were `invented` I used to have 2 batteries in my van and they lasted  a 2 week holiday.(running lights, water tap and tv) I assume that sites still do battery charging as well so if one runs out you can get it charged up.

Regards Robin

The LCD TVs are quite sensitive to voltage, I don't think it would be wise to connect it direct to the 12v if it needs 8.5v. I presume it has its own transformer that you use when plugging into the mains? You may need to get an inverter to plug into the 12v to give 240v then plug in the TV as normal.

Its quite a good little gadget, its a compact playstation2 with a joytech 8" screen bolted on. It came with all the leads to use 240volt or 12volt and I have bought a bolt on tv adapter. It means I have a games console, DVD/CD player and TV all in one small package taking up know more than 12" square! I reckon from all the great advice you guys have given me that my 110amp/h battery should be more than adequate!

That sounds very handy Sharon, saves messing about with an invertor and too many gadgets!
