any thoughts/advice on using a mobile service for the caravan--we thought we would at least be able to see what is actually being done-a local one advertizes he does insurance work too so perhapes he should be OK--advice & recomendation for Sheffield area welcome Lilian
We went over to a mobile man & he was excellent. The first time he came our van was in its 5th year. It had been serviced by the supplying dealer for three years to keep in line with warranty requirements & by a mate of a mate in its fourth. The mobile man told us that in his opinion, our van had NEVER had a proper service. He was on it for over three hours to make sure all was well.
I guess we'll be restricted to dealer servicing for the warranty period on our new van which is due to be delivered here in 2 weeks. But, I'm considering asking him to have a look round it as well to ensure it's in order.
Obviously there's good & bad everywhere & I'm pleased we've found this man, I certainly intend keeping my space in his book & in answer to your question, yes the good ones are first class & get my vote every time. However, I can't tell you anyone in your area.
You usually find mobile guys are to good to employ and therefore can offer a better and of course cheaper service than main dealers, however there is bound to be a few that are frankly un-employable!! so you need to be wary and get recommendations.
Many of these lads are fully accredited with the NCC and Insurance companies so in fact can do warranty work from new, only the Swift group seem to be out of step on this.

Does anyone know of a Mobile service engineer in or around Edinburgh. I am planning to take the van down to edinburgh next week for a few days and it would be great if I could have it serviced whilst there. i am not sure if CC will allow but I will check if I could arrange someone to come and service whilst i was on edinburgh CC site
thanks

As ever with this subject, as long as the workshop is on this list: Approved Workshop Nearest you Then they can service ANY CARAVAN and MAINTAIN YOUR WARRANTY.

So, The only choice that you have to make is whether you drag your van all the way to a dealer, not see the work being done and then pay through the nose. Or you get the Mobile Fitter to come to you so you don't have to turn out and waster diesel, you can watch the work being carried out and then save money as most Mobile's charge far less than the dealers - Tough choice really !

------------- We have Approved Mobile Workshop Status
We had ours done by the dealers for the 1st 2 years and paid £180, had the hassle of dropping off and picking up. Last year we used a chap based in Sc**thorpe his website is www.caravanchris.co.uk.
He covers a wide area and is held in high regard, we have used and had no complaints.
