Going on a rally and was going to buy a generator. But my friends dad uses a charger that he attaches onto his car (I take it the battery) and it charges up the caravan battery when you attach the other end to it.
Does anyone use one and if so are they any good???? If they are no good what do you advise for charging up your battery when EHU not available. Any advice greatly appreciated.
First.........forget the generator, your fellow campers will not like it!
How long are you going to be with no EHU? You should manage a few days with no problems. If you run out you can connect 12S to car and use from car battery. Otherwise a solar panel will help keep the van battery topped up.
You can also get power packs, act like a battery. Have seen them mentioned on here.
We use a Solar panel when we go on holiday for 2 weeks and battery is still full when we come back. Trickle charges back what you take out, mind you we don't take tv , just lights and pump run of it. You must start off with a fully charged battery. For a week-end you shouldn't have any problems unless you use a lot of gadgets.
Hi Jennifer its for 5 nights - 6 days that we are going to be without EHU. I did think about the noise from a generator and really didnt like the thought of using one to be honest.
I havent seen any of these power packs? I will do a search and see if they come up on here. I was a bit reluctant at getting solar pannels because a lot of people on here seem to think they are not all that good.
I've wondered about this topic (the car charger for leisure batteries) as my car doesn't(very few in NZ do, if any, and we use a 7 pin flat connector here anyway) have the wiring for the second lead (the grey one), so I can't charge while towing. It would be nice to be able to connect the battery up to something in the car while on a day out to give it a boost. Is there such a thing available?
Why not just fit a second socket? Doesn't matter its shape as long as it does the job. Otherwise you could fix up something in the boot. I'm not technical, but have heard it is not that difficult. If OH were not asleep on the sofa I would ask him, he is good with all that sort of stuff.
I'd appreciate that Jennifer, the wiring on cars here only runs the road lights on the caravan, and I have yet to find an autoelectrician that knows anything about split chargers etc.
