I think you must mean a Carver Cascade as the 'Trumatic' is a gas fire!!
It may be that you will have to destroy the bung to get it out, but first get the water heater hot and then if you have one use a heat gun around the bung hole to expand the housing even further. Best to remove the outer vent cover after getting the water hot and this should give room to get a pair of pipe grips around the bung.
if the head does snap off you will need to saw down through the plastic left in the hole until you scratch at the metal threads, do this 4 times into quarters and then prise the bits out with a small screwdriver.
