All the services on the M5 allow caravans to spend the night there, they use the lorry park & from what I've seen it's very very popular. I wouldn't worry about the fact you're in the lorry park, the drivers all want a nights sleep the same as you do & they're a friendly bunch in the most part (I'm one of them) If you do go into one, I'd suggest you pick a spot well out of the way if you're in any doubts but as I said earlier, they get very busy indeed.
One strong benefit I see is that you'll have toilet facilities & fuel on tap as well as being around other people. Far less vulnerable.
There are lots of labys around on the roads running beside the M5 too but I'm not up to speed with how you stand just parking in one of them for the night.
If you can get your hands on the BIG site book from the C&CC it has listing for service areas which allow overnight caravan parking.
