Can anyone help?

I have just had a distress call from my sister-in-law. They are on their second day in France and their fridge is refusing to work. They have tried to run it on both electricity and gas and also gone through the troubleshooting section in the manuals but to no avail. I do not know the model of the fridge but their van is an Abbey Cardinal 340 if that helps.

We are going out to join them in a couple of days so if anyone can suggest what the problem might be and how to rectify it they would be very grateful.

Heat is most likely the problem as the fridge is only capable of removing 30degC from the ambient temperature, if the fridge vents are in the awning it can be a lot hotter than that!! Also the fridge has got to be level

If the can feel heat coming from the flue indicating it's trying to work, tell them to run it on electric and (if they can) remove the lower vent cover, then use a fan to blow in and over the lower pipework this should help a lot. Don't try it on gas like this as the fan might upset the flame.

Thanks for that Gary, I've passed your suggestion onto them and they are going to try it out as soon as they've finished their warm beers!!

In those temperatures thay may well have switched the dial too high, causing blokkage by overheating. Tell them also to turn the knob a bit lower. Try position 3 first.
