Our Ace Airstream has a Thetford flush toilet which stopped working last year. The caravan repair shop said the pump had packed up and he replaced it, but he also said it would need doing every year (at a cost of about £60). Sure enough, when we started using the van again this year we found that the flush isn't working again. The fuses are all intact - including the 1A fuse within the toilet housing itself - so power doesn't seem to be the problem, and the system was fully drained during the winter.
Does anyone else have any experience of this problem ? Surely there must be a way of preventing an annual pump failure ?
Hi Folks, No it's not necessary to change the pump every year, only when it fails, they fail because (a) they wear out or (b) because the holding tank hasn't been drained properly when not in use for long periods, which leaves the pump half submerged. Not really pratical to take the pump out, unless you want to heat seal the connection every time you need to use it.
Your pump could be blocked up from limescale or brown gunk use a tank cleaner.
I replaced my fuse and it still didnt work so my local dealer kindly checked the pump and it was jammed with brown gunk so was the tank, I used Thetford tank cleaner and it did the job. My Local dealer didnt charge me.
