Hi All

Pretty sure we're going to buy a Lunar Quasar 615 as our first van, until now that is!!

Someone has just mentioned that Lunars are often leaky!!! Obvioulsy don't want to end up with water ingress (a damp caravan is not something I want to spend my hard earned cash on!)
We could buy a new caravan (which would have a warranty) as our budget is £15,000 but were thinking of buying second hand, just in case we find we don't like it.

Has anyone got this caravan or are a Lunar owner?
Any problems with leaks/damp?
Am I worrying unnecessarily or would I be better off looking at a different make?

Really want a caravan where all 4 children can be partitioned off at one end rather than fixed bunks at the back or side and side dinette bunks with a curtain round, which is what attracted us to the Qusasr 615 in the first place.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Here's the link to the thread I was referring to where leaky lunars was mentioned!  Not saying they are the only manufacturer with problems but I just remembered they came in for a bit of stick from members.

On another website you will find a lot of adverse comments on Avondales! There is always an element of chance, as there is with cars, but if you buy from a reputable dealer, with a decent warranty, you should be covered. Nothing in life is certain...Very few people have major problems with their caravans, whatever the make, but of course, it is always the bad news that we hear about. Very few people come on here to say 'Actually, we're very happy, and don't have anything to complain about!'.

IWe are on our 2nd Lunar, we currently have the Quasar 615 which you are interested in (see profile) and have not had any problems at all. We think they are sound caravans and very light compared to some others like for like. Our 615 is a dealer special (frystar from frys caravans) so you get upgrades like better upholstory, alarm, alloys and others. Have you thought of a dealer special?? The price difference is pennies (or it was in our case) . . . .good luck with your purchase x

having worked for lunars for years i would like to say that ANY van can leak

yes lunars had an ingress problem but for years now i would say they are no worse than any others it a case of poo sticks its easier to get a reputation than to get rid of one

i also worked at a repair center that worked on every make and model and i would say that lunar WASNT our most worked on van with ingress so ignor the gossip buy with your eyes wide open and enjoy

Thanks everyone for your comments - we are total caravan virgins so any advice offered is gratefully received and I am sure I'll be picking your brains regularly!!

Took OH to have a look at the Quasar yesterday and he agreed that the layout would be perfect for our needs - his only slight concern was the length of the unit (it stuck out a good 2ft longer than the other vans it was parked next to!) but I pointed out that to us girls "SIZE DOES MATTERS"   lol

Anyway, we're going back again to have a real prod and poke about and to see if we can do a better deal on the price (cash talks!) so hopefully it won't be too long until we join the "club" officially!!

Thanks again
LOL

i worked at local caravan repair shop that was an insurance repair center i didnt notice any one make that had a larger proportion of ingress than any other and as we were only about 4 miles from lunars factory and also did repairs for them you would expect most of our work to be lunars but it wasnt

what im trying to say is that lunar got a bad name quite rightly but that was years ago and they have done alot to solve it but mud sticks and the gossips keep gossiping even though most of them never ever owned a lunar but all would state that they knew someone who did and it leaked funny how as an insurance repair center we didnt see as many as were supposedly out there leaking

We have a Lunar Lexon EWL, twin axle, no problems at all in the 3 years we have had it.

Still looks like new and no a sign of water anywhere except where it should be,

Great Vans
