I changed mine last year using 8 ply van/light truck tyres which was advised in the handbook.

Thank you all,

I am happier now that I have some knowledge on caravan tyres,

Quite new to this site, so far it's all good, Quickfit, well I don't know, I reckon it's a problem, you see I live on a small group of islands in the middle of the north sea.

Thans again.

Larry.

I had to have my caravan tyres done last week - they were cracking in quite a few places. I went to ATS a few miles down the road, who were very helpful. The tyres definitley needed doing, and I discussed tyron bands with them - I heard about them from this forum. They said it would be a good idea to get them fitted as well. The wheels also needed replacing - very rusty, and 22 years old!

They said they could get the tyres, though not the wheels, and were going to enquire about the tyron bands. In the end I bought all I needed from Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury who were very helpful as well - relieved me of £275 in the process! £34.99 for each rim, £43 per tyre, and £125 total for the tyrons.

If you got two new rims, two new tyres & two Tyrons supplied & fitted for £275 Richard you did well. God forbid it to happen but, if you do have a bad puncture/blowout at any time, you'll be pleased you had the Tyrons. I've had two events when I was pleased they were there & I was happy to shell out £75 a side for them on my new van.

Hi.

As I said earlier we bought our van 4 years ago, the tyres were nearly new, the spare is still unused. Hubby always checks them before every trip. After hearing horror stories of blow outs etc. I asked hubby if he would change ours as I know its been said you should replace caravan tyres every 4 years or so. Well hubby assured me that there wasn`t a mark on ours, and that they are good sound tyres, he`s the last person that would risk having dodgy tyres. Anyway I persuaded him to change them. So he gets them off the van and takes them to a tyre centre in Leamington and the chap there, after a thorough inspection ,said there was nothing wrong with them and there was no need to change them at all infact he couldn`t find a blemish on them. He said he`s happy to sell him £80 of new tyres but it really would be a waste of money. Our caravan is used all year round and isn`t parked on one spot for very long ( I think that can cause problems) I was worried that the tyres were about 5 years old but he insisted they were fine.

Anyway the old tyres are back on the van again, Its nice to know that not everybody is out to take your money off you. I`m still a bit worried though but I suppose if an experienced tyre fitter (which he was) tells you your tyres are fine then they must be.

Hope you`ve managed to get your new tyres Sheltie? I`m off out now so if anyone replies to this I won`t read it till tomorrow

Hi

Sue is absolutly right.

I bought oe as a spare yesterday.£30 forthe rim and £40 for the tyre. Geez-o-Pete that's nearly as much as I paid for the flippin' caravan. It might be of interest that the tyre people say that a 175...13 should be inflated to 38psi.

Now isn't that typical....your not too far from me Funky and I've got a tyre and wheel bought new 2 yrs ago and never been on the road. You would have been welcome to it for nothing. Sod's law I suppose.
