Has anyone any ideas why the caravan battery does not charge when we are plugged in to the mains electric on site.  We went away this summer and only used the caravan lights and the water pump occasionally but the battery, which was bought new the year before, doesn't seem to be holding much charge.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

hi you need to buy a meter cost about £6/7 from screwfix.then when hooked up to mains check the charge on the end of the wires that go to the battery ,without them fitted to the battery.if you are getting a reading of 13.5V at the end of the wires your charger is ok and the battery is duff.DONT LET THE WIRES TOUCH EACH OTHER OR THE CARAVAN WHEN CHECKING. if you check the battery with the meter a reading of 12.7V MEANS ITS FULLY CHARGED

Check water level in battery. If level is low, top up with  distilled water.

Are you sure there is a battery charger in your van? If so is it switched on?
