Hi all, in a spot of bother and would appreciate any help.

We have just come back from a weekend away and before we went the battery was fully charged and when we got there the battery was dead. Wasn't a great disaster as was on electric hook up but got a feeling how it happened.  The battery has an indicator on it and it now shows "discharged".

How it happened? Well, may well be down to me. The electric socket going into the back of the car (for the fridge etc) was well worn and discoloured so I replaced it last week. Carefully I drew myself a picture of the wires and disconnected and connected one by one.  Looking back on it because the socket has a cut out it will only go in one way. Now my downfall may have been I have got the wires in the correct order but when I put the casing on it may have been the wrong way round. Could this have shorted the battery?? If it has does "discharged" mean fatal/had it/no chance or could it still be charged up by a battery charger?  Is there a chance it could have effected anything else in the caravan?  All the electrics worked fine on hook up.

Many thanks in advance, Jason.

Is there a master fuse in the control panel, if this has gone then the panel will show discharged and nothing will work on 12V, failing that it could be a large drain on the battery, i dont know what or how old the van is, if its oldish and the fridge is fitted wrongly or been modified to run off the leisure battery this could run a battery down in a short space of time,

Get a garage to check the battery, it may be fully charged if its a panel fault and charging it furter may damage it if your charger isnt automatic

Many thanks for advice, I will take the battery out and get it checked over. The van is a 1993 Fleetwood Garland. The Fridge has always been pulled with the car battery as power and then mains when we site - never had this problem before. The indicator on the battery itself shows discharged as there is a hole inbetween the terminals - if its green its charged and if its black its discharged.
