CORGI engineer here. Gas kills etc etc, not a DIY job, partial combustion, carbon monoxide, need I say more? Do not attempt DIY on gas seals, sorry, see too many disasters.
For those who want to check out their existing gas unions, plumbers merchants have pots of liquid with a coloured detergent and applicator brush. Apply around the joints and see if bubbles appear. If in any doubt at all, switch off, ventilate and get it sorted.
Fridges can become air locked and it can be as simple as keep trying, ensure very good ventilation, until gas pushes out all air. Otherwise, get it checked out by a competent person. There should have been a gas check done by a suitably qualified person if purchased from dealer. If private sale, just get it checked.
