hi we were away last weekend and the awfull waehter we had mean the awning had a mass of water on it . and it leaked in , tell me how do you pull it tight and get it so the water runs off and keeps our freinds from getting wet , oh i am new to this caravan thing , but i have to admit it is shear fun and good way of life
Glad you enjoyed your caravan experience. We had a similar problem first time round and just kept adjusting the poles so the awning was Pulled tight. You need to make sure that you have it on properly and central, if that makes sense. Hopefully you have got the right size awning for your van. Silly question but you'll be surprised.
You may also need to proof your awning with some sealer.

when i was in our local caravan accessories shop a man in frount of me bought a new awning. the guy behind the counter told him it might leak for the first two or three times its used and after that it would be ok. i have no idea why, i just overheard it.

I think he meant FABSIL not sure if that is the right spelling mind you!
Oops...yup, must have had one of my mrs blond moments there...FabSIL is the stuff...thanks Jen
I heard that the stitching in new awnings takes a little while to 'expand' to fill the needle hole gaps, which is why some new awnings leak at first then stop soon after use.

or try the thompsons stuff you can get from B&Q, same stuff 1/3 of the price, its comes highly recomended by the TT guys, some sites dont like you re-waterproofing on site cos the stuff kills the grass, so it may be wise to ask first if you intend to do it on site, Oh and it has to stay dry for 6 hours after coating
The old awning that came with my caravan sometimes collects puddles in heavy rain but it is waterproof so it doesn't drip through. We push it off by poking it with anything handy - making sure no-one is stood near it at the time or they get soaked!
Canvas does go a bit baggy over time.
Perhaps consider adding a verandah pole across to keep the canvas from drooping so much?

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
France is the best so have fun. OH now uses one of those pole stretchers when putting up the awning. Can't believe the difference it made especially to his temper. He just whizzes round now tightening up the poles. You can try dropping the front awning poles to give a better incline for water run off. Have noticed that some awnings are put up with the fronts very high and water inevitably gets trapped. Once you've got baggy canvas it's too late. Lots of Fabsil and prods from inside are the only answer. Good to do it when lots of people are standing just outside the awning, well, I think it's funny anyway.
