Apart from H&S issues, the quoted price of a wind turbine frightens me off.  A generator also has disadvantages  A solar panel looks far more attractive, if EHU not available, and would probably win on weight, compactness and cost.

when not on ehu i obviously wouldnt charge my battery, and with my solar panel wouldnt need to.  I fully charge my van at home.

We have just returned from a site where due to the cold weather the vans next to us were putting in £1.50 - £3.00 per night in electric cards.  We used gas for our heating which is much more efficient.  Over 6 nights that would be £18 in electric cards.  I used a 13kg propane which was half full on arrival and was replace just b4 leaving at a cost of £18.00, therefore cost to us £9.00. 

Hot water is only neccessary for dishes due to most sites having excellent facilities and the van shower is only used when no facilities available.  gas used for the fridge is minimal.  All electric gadgets are powered through the invertor and battery, which is charged by solar panel, therefore no cost.

We used electric on the same site in october and dec this year once with electric and once with gas.  Gas much cheaper.  even allowing a conservative £2.00 per night hook up still £3.00 more than gas.

The heating on gas was never higher than 3, however on electric was on at 2000w and 9 to acheive same warmth.

That is interesting to compare costs.  We have never been on a site where they used electricity cards, but were on one in Germany where the power was metered, and very expensive!  We were very surprised how much we had used!

We tend to use our own facilities a lot so use a fair bit of hot water. And the only thing we wash in the camp kitchen is the BBQ griddle.  We also have an electric kettle, a toaster, a 2 ring electric hob, a small electric oven/grill (just got that), an electric cooking pot, a fan for when it is hot, an omnivent, an electric fan heater for extra heating if required,and all the usual TV, laptop, oodles of batteries to charge,  so on fixed price hook-ups we get our money's worth!  (we did not have all these when we were in Germany!)

We have used several sites where there are no toilets/showers, but for us EHU is essential.

dont get me wrong when im on a hook up, which isnt very often i use electric kettle toaster, oven ring, steamer, george foreman etc etc etc etc, i use minimal gas.

3 weeks in Italy this year with 6kg gas that still had gas in it when we came back.

the site we were on that used cards was great cos we could see the savings, the people next door actually put 3 cards in one day.  I still used my tv most of the day no problem. 

When they left they said we could use what they had left, so everything went on electric and we charged the battery b4 heading to our new year rally, which has no hook up.

I really noticed the difference between electric and gas heating.
