How do you vent the battery compartment?

Does the compartment have to be sealed so that it cannot be accessed from inside the van?

Can the charger be in the same compartment?

Help!!!!!

On my caravan the battery is held in a sealed fibre glass battery box , the bottom has two 1/2inch bore tubes in it to allow for venting to the outside . I don't think it would be a good idea to have a charger in the same box as the battery , heat build up and gases spring to mind .

For safety reasons, definitely keep your battery compartment sealed from the inside of the van, and do not have your charger in the same compartment as the battery.  Although proprietary caravan battery chargers do not charge at a rate high enough to cause gassing, this precaution is still important.  In the case where anyone is using a car-type battery charger, the precaution is critical to safety.
