I have two lightweight 5 (or 6) kg propane bottles. Last a long time during summer. Two bottles gives me security during winter but also when the first bottle runs low. For long weekend I only bring one bottle if that bottle still is full enough (kevlar gasbottle, one can see the gas-level, and of course feel it). Two small propane bottles is the most flexible option for travelling lightweight, light winter use, long weekends and travelling abroad.
Hi Andy If you haven't gone for BP gaslite yet, consider Calor propane. I have just bought a new Caravan and my first consideration for gas was BP, but when i went into it there was no advantage. Calor is cheaper and more important it is normally available on campsite.Weight is not a big saving on BP.Weight of full cyninders: Calor 3.9kg = 9kg 6kg = 15kg
BP 5kg = 8.7kg 10kg =16.7kg.
I have an automatic changeover valve, so i use two 3.9kg. BP is still difficult to get in some places.
I bought my van last June, and Im still on my first bottle of propane (5kg or 7kg, I forget which - it fits in the locker anyway)
That will be about 6 weeks use in summer and autumn.
WHen on site I use mains hook up for fridge and water heater, electric kettle - well its all in the site fee so why not maximise use!
I just use gas for cooking really. Used the gas fire one evening only. On the continent eating out was so cheap we dined out half the time! We were on hols after all!
I dont think they have the gaslight distribution sorted out yet, as an earlier posting said. Pity, as those two metal calor bottles dont half put some weight on the caravan nose!

We got a regulator with a built in dial which shows the amount left - very accurate - like may we use as much leccy stuff as we can. converting the truma to dual with the ultraheat was the best money ever spent - hardly use the gas now... got a mini george for the bangers..! sorted..
