Gelert LV6: pitching time and fully pegged, with practice, around an hour or just under. Take your time, it's not a race.

Just remember that with such a large tent it is essential even in relatively calm conditions that all pegging points and guys are properly pegged - you won't realise the importance until it is too late.

Hi, we have the lv6 2006 and that has the 2 equal size pods but this year it has changed. It is a fab tent loads of room and great height in the pods.

the first couple of times we pitched took well over an hour but now its down to about 40 mins from opening the bag to pegging out.  we put the poles in, then stand the back pole into place and peg in the main back guy rope, then pull out like a concertina and peg out the main front guy. this helps hold it up while you put the strengthening poles in the sides. from there its just pegging out !

its a great tent, hope you get loads of enjoyment from it !

Our LV6 arrived today, with a few other bits we ordered from Outdoorworld - intitial problem we had with ordering may have been our computer, hubby ordered from work with no problems whatsoever!

Can't wait to go camping now. We're booked up and now have the tent, we're hoping to have a practise camp in my brothers garden over the bank holiday - haven't told him yet!!!

We're gradually spending a fortune on all the bits that go with it though!! Used to just rough it, but now we've got 2 small children to contend with too, I don't feel like roughing it anymore, so we're gradually collecting the "extras", thing is, I don't know how we're going to get it all in the car!!!

Just back from a very, very wet and windy weekend. LV6 stood firm and apart from a little condensation no problems whatsoever.

You're going to be so pleased you bought a Gelert LV6.

Greetings and apologies for reopening an old thread but I wish i'd read this before I tried to pitch my new LV6 last October! Being a total newbie to the whole thing I enlisted an experienced camper (and member of the TA!) and we got it up in just under an hour in a moderate breeze - much fun. Only trouble is, we finished off with him outside and me inside and off he toddled to bed and long suffering partner. About half an hour later i tried to go out and couldn't get the door open - I had to phone him to come back and get me out! I spent the next three days making a lot of tea and sandwiches and apologising to both parties!
Once up, it was fab for me plus three lurchers, one westie, one lab and a border terrier by night and for entertaining and dinner for the friends each evening.
We're off again this October so does anyone have any more tips? (3x3 config, btw, Sept 06 purchase)
We were a little puzzled by what goes on with the two ground sheets in the communal area, and whether there's supposed to be a loose flap all round....???

Had a great if blustery week in Dorset a couple of weeks ago, tent stood up well to awful rain and winds at times!

We had fun with the groundsheets too!! As far as we've worked it out - feel free to correct me anyone! is that the larger one goes under the bedroom pods and covers part of the floor - to between the two windows, then the smaller one goes in front of that to the door, so that if you zip the front panel back a section, you don't need to have the groundsheet down. But there seems to be a right way and wrong way with the larger groundsheet - we have yet to get it right! If you have it laid down so it is narrower in the tent than the smaller groundsheet, you need to turn the larger one, so it is the same width, and then the hole for pegging the bedroom pods shouild be in the correct place - we think anyway!!!

Where pos, we tucked the flaps under the groundsheets. How is it supposed to be detachable btw?

We had fun with the door too - ours won't last many more trips unless we can suss out how to set it up with less pressure on the front panel - any tips for easing the tension here would be great! Do we need to loosen the straps that go underneath - don't know what they're called!

Hi all,

There have been many previous threads regarding the tension on the front panel. Do a search for 'Gelert lv', 'lokon vario' etc.

One thing to remember is that the guys on the front pole should point forwards and not to the sides like the other guys. Take a look at the photos on my webpage.

Basically, I've found the best way to cure the problem with the front door zip is to slacken off a little all guys and the two interior tensioning poles. Test the front door zip, there should be no problem whatsoever using the zip. Close the door and tighten the interior tensioning poles - check the door zip; starting from the back increase the tension on a couple of guys - check the door zip; move forward and tighten a little the next two guys - check the door zip. Continue doing this and you'll soon discover where the problem is when you find the door zip becomes difficult to open/close.

The problem (even though everything looks fine) is usually when one part of the tent has been 'over-tensioned' and has distorted the natural shape of the tunnel causing problems in other areas.

Happy camping.
