I was told about the problem with the Killington recall by manager of our local campshop and have been told it is all because some of the seams have not been taped - if you have one of these tents I would reccommend that you check your seams - if you have a faulty one contact your supplier or Vango direct and they should change this for you - if you are unfortunate not to get an exchange then get some sealer and do the seams yourself but Yeomans campshop will refund or replace so I am told!

The tents are lovely so dont be put off cos of a recall - its not the whole lot but some unlucky ones

This is the message on Vango's website:

KILLINGTON RECALL

Dear Consumer

We have received reports that a number of Killington 600 & 900s from a 2007 production batch are showing signs of water ingress at the anchor points on the flysheet. Whilst we are not sure if every tent is affected, we are recalling them.

Consequently, if you have had problems, we would be grateful if you could return your tent complete, to the retailer that you bought the tent from.

The retailer is authorised to offer you a replacement or similar tent of the relevant size.

The Killington 400 and all other Vango models are unaffected. If you are not sure if you have a faulty tent, or are unsure of what to do, please email aftersales at amg-group.co.uk

Isn't it impressive, that a manufacturer should post details of a potential problem so quickly, and offer to resolve without quibble? Has to be top marks to Vango Customer Service Department!

I emailed Vango about the Killington recall and received this reply a couple of days later.

<quote>

Thanks for your mail.

The following is the most recent information that i have.

We have received reports from consumers that a number of the Killington
600 and Killington 900 tents are showing signs of water ingress at an
anchor point on the flysheet. We have inspected our own stock and regret
to advise that
we have identified a flaw that is contained within the construction of
this range of tents, and can only be repaired at source by our
manufacturers, in China. For an as yet unknown reason, the manufacturer
has altered the construction of this anchor point from that which we
specified, thus resulting in this issue.

Whilst we do not believe every tent to be affected, we can only ensure
that these products meet our quality standards by way of 100% inspection.

Consequently, we have decided to recall the stock that is currently in the
market place with retailers.

If you do have a Killington 600 / 900 and the above problem occurs, then
we would suggest that your best course of action is to contact your
retailer of purchase, who will be able to assist in returning the product
and also advise you of a substitute product from our Family Tent range.

In addition, if you have ordered a Killington from a retailer and have not
yet received it, the best course of action is again to contact your
retailer who will advise you of a substitute product from our Family Tent
range.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this matter may
cause.

We are working towards a solution to this problem, but at the moment we
are unsure as to how long it will take to put this problem right.

Regards
Andrew

Tell you summat! In a way I wish I'd bought one of these dodgy Vangos as I'd like to be on the recieveing end of such good customer service for a change.

And well done the OP for bringing this to peoples attention before the leaky killington threads started appearing.

BTW what kind of a name is Killington? Is this where Vango commit mass murder if someone buys an Outwell instead?

I'm glad I bought a non leaky Rage Valdo from Tentastic. I would be really upset to send my so called wonder tent back due to a manufacturing error. What happened to their Quality Assurance??????? it's to late once the defective product is received by the customer even it's recalled - ask the car manufacturers.

I wonder now what they think re: their response to me on 18th May which included a comment re: people on this forum of 'having a different agenda':  see below:

'Thank you for your email regarding the Killington tent and the question regarding the waterproof qualities.

We currently are aware of one tent being returned, out of the thousands we sell.

The tent in question should arrive today and we will be testing this product to see if it is faulty.

The information being posted on the web has not been replicated by retailer feedback, which may be down to 1 of 2 possibilities

1         Our retailers are not informing us of a return problem. Which is highly unlikely

2         The people who are posting the information have a different agenda than just being helpful consumers

Our lifetime guarantee should give you the confidence regarding our belief in all of our tents, and we spend a considerable amount of our time ensuring the quality of our product is improved every year. We inspect every tent at the end of the production line, we then have spot checks in place in China and in addition we inspect a qty of the product when it arrives in the UK.

If there is a problem with a design we would expect the retailers to come back very quickly to us. As it is in both the retailers and our interest to make sure that all the people who purchase a Vango product have an enjoyable experience.

I trust this allays your fears

I will be in contact later to update you regarding our testing.

Kenny Mackinnon '

Funnily enough, Kenny hasn't been back in touch ......!!!

I was looking at the Killingtons. Is it safe to buy one now? I assume any issues have been resloved.

By the way, I think the name Killington is taken from a ski resort of the same name.

Hi, I bought a Vango Vail 500 last year. Liked tent, but there were about 5 small leaks.

Returned it and yes it did take months to sort, but it has been replaced with the 2008 version the Amazon 600. They said it was a faulty batch. Even though it took some time I feel Vango have been fair and am glad with the outcome.
