So far we are very pleased with this tent, although not been in bad weather yet - going away this weekend and almost hoping for rain to give it a good test before we go to Scotland in the summer.  We manage to get the tent in the bag leaving out the front ground sheet.  We fold and roll twice to get the air out, remembering to leave some zips undone for the air to escape and with my OH jumping on it it goes back in fine.

Hi

The huffing and puffing to get the tent back in its bag can be reduced by using a spare family member to act as a road roller or rolling pin on the tent once you have folded it to the correct width for the bag.  Make sure that the rolling pin takes two or three "goes" at smoothing the long strip, to get as much air out as possible, before the final roll up of the tent itself.

Works for me, but then, I don't have to be the road roller !

I totally agree, my OH has no probs getting it packed away, (as much as I hate to say) .Last time he used his dad to roll around on the floor and get the air out whilst he was rolling it up behind. Works a treat! Infact, we tried rolling him up with the tent so we had extra help to pitch up and pack away next time but unfortunately he wouldn't fit in the bag!

I've just thought actually, I have got the Vermont l and you are all talking about the Vermont XL. Ours really does go back in the bag fairly easily so maybe the bag size for the XL is just not quite big enough? Probably another cock up Outwell have managed to make this year! Going camping again next on Friday 13th July (yep you read right) so no doubt the heavens will open and we will find ourselves in a small lake come the morning!.........God I hope not, I love my tent and will be so gutted if it follows the trend of leaky 2007 models. Will keep you posted.

Unfortunately, the Vermont XL has the same size bag as the Vermont L but there is more material on the XL so it is a bit more of struggle.  Even our local dealers had problems getting the display model XL back into the bag.  In-fact, it was quite a comedy act to watch.  My L goes back into the bag ok but I have seen numerous people struggling with the XL.  I helped a family on our last camping trip with their XL and it was a real pain egtting it to fit in the bag.  Even when it was in, it was a tight squeeze to zip it up.  That included rolling up and down on the tent to get the air out.

Have just returned from second trip with Vermont XL in Lincolnshire.  Had some pretty decent showers and not a drip in sight apart from a little bit of condensation on the inner.  Really stood up well.  Went back first time into the bag, rolled front to half, then rear to half, then in half and half again and went in straight away.  Helped by having the tent with lots of zip open and it blowing a little before packing.  Really pleased with this and looking forward to Scotland in the kids hols.

Hi

Just looked at this tent and am in love with it.  Now I am really worried about the leaking problems as I have an very real fear of leaking anything !!!!

What do any of you suggest in hindsight.

Thanks Sue

Hi Susan

Dont worry too much abt Vermont - took ours out for test run 2 wks ago and no problem at all with leaks - despite major downpour Sat.  Go for it.... great fantastic fabulous wonderful tent!

Definately get footprint-carpet combo tho - does keep condensation to a real minimum.

Also ignore Outwell's instructions to put up - start with one curved roof pole and 2 side poles... at the back. Guy these bits up and then go to next section... also open doors etc to let in plenty of air.  Rolling OH on top of folded up bit when putting away helped a little, but both of us sitting on rolled up bit sort of stuffed into bag eventually got it put away (not 2 mention providing great entertainment for all the kids watching us!!!

Thanks Steve,

Might sound a bit thick but what is a footprint-carpet combo !!!!

Always a laugh for those watching when putting a tent in the bag

How many people do you get in and do you use the wardrobe bit.

hi all, we're looking at the vermont xl ourselves for next year. getting married this year so got rid of the last faulty nebraska and put the money away but now worried about the leaking some of you have experienced, whats the ratio here of people having leaks and those with no problems? will definitley get the carpet but don't wanna wake up in a shower like last year, do you think they'll sort it out for 2008? cheers all.

I've got the Vermont l, we were really worried about it letting in the rain after hearing about many people having leaky ones. Took a real battering from the rain a couple of weeks back, didnt let in a drop of rain, only prob we had was with condensation but bear in mind, there were seven of us sitting in it all day and night trying to keep dry and we were cooking, boiling kettle etc. We are so pleased with ours.

We got back from a week in devon last Sunday, It let in just a drop, over my wifes head in bed!! It stopped after a while, looks like a seam that needs sorting, overall we were very pleased as it rained good and hard for several days.

Great tent, massive, you need a large pitch

Martin

Could any Vermont XL owners post some lived in shots of there tent as they are the best ones to see if a tent is suitable, Ive searched all over for some and cant even see one up in person, if anyone knows of a shop with the Vermont XL to view near the county durham area that would help too..

Thanks

My tip for folding the Nebraska up is to take your time. Allow the weight of the tent, once folded, to gradually force the air out of the open doors. I always folded it in stages allowing the air to gradually leak out - then folded again. Once it was about rolling size - roll it at least twice. Lift it into the bag - stand the bag on end and stuff the loose bits in. It's a right old saga!
