I think I've only read one instance of an Aspen leaking, so think its unlikely.  Like you say, Vango's customer service is excellent so I wouldn't worry.

It's a fab tent, we watched the DVD and used the following (very helpful) instructions a member posted on this site (4th post down) and found it pretty straightforward to put up:

Sleepyol, could you please email me the video file for pitching Aspen 500?

My email is lefkiosg at gmail.com

I am going for camping on Thursday.. I have downloaded it last year, but I do not have it anymore and unfortunately it is not available on Vango website.

If the file is big, could you please send it to me using this http://www.mailbigfile.com/ ? It is usually much quicker and easier to send big files.

Thank you very much for your help! Really appreciated!

Lasty1,

If you want to stick your email address on here, I'll try emailing the vid to you. It's quite a large file though, so can't guarantee it'll work.....

I have a Vango Aspen 700 and really like it. It is home from home. Only down side is weight of poles and it really needs two people to put up. Enjoy

.

Did buy the aspen after all and it stood up to some pretty grim weather in wales. No leaks at all.

Downside is the weight of it and pitching although after some practise me and my two kids pitch it quite easily now.

The difference between the aspen and montana for me was the porch, it is ideal for a portable loo at night, oh and its cheaper.

Surprised Vango stopped making them to be honest.

They didn't really, they just changed it a bit, made it flysheet first pitching instead of inner tent first, and then renamed it the Zambesi! I considered it, but although the flysheet first bit sounds perfect, you then have to hang all the inner rooms individually rather than having the one big inner tent. So I went for the Aspen 500 DLX and am thrilled with it! I also bought the footprint groundsheet and the carpet, which is actually meant for the Zambesi but as they are exactly the same dimensions it doesn't matter! Yes, it is kinda like a giant picnic blanket, but it does make the living area super cosy! Everyone who saw our tent on the campsite was jealous of a tent with a carpet! It was hilarious!!  :o)
