I'm mystified. We've had three different tents and never managed to have an argument pitching or packing any of them. I feel I'm missing out. How do you start these? I mean, we both snap at the kids because they want to run through the tent repeatedly for no good reason while we're sorting out the groundsheet and sleeping compartments, but what are the grounds for arguing with each OTHER?

Its because you have a common enemy, with us its like a reenactment of the Somme then when the tents up we meet in no mans land for a game of football.

it's the fact that he's pushing the poles into the mud with the tent sleeve still round them, the ground's not level, the peg that was holding the whole thing up has just come out of the ground .... lots of ways to have an argument

should have seen us on hols with my parents - 4 of us to get stroppy, at one site the Dutch guy next us heard the shouting and came out to offer us help - I had to explain that this was part of the normal tent erection process. The guy obviously thought we were bonkers, probably cos he'd watched us sit around for 2 hours then start to put the tent up the minute it started raining (actually we were waiting for a tent-pole repair to dry but hey ho!)

And we definitely manage to have arguments taking the tent down, not as good though!

Hi

My OH and I used to argue but we now have a plan of attack which we follow each time with the tent as the enemy.  First discussion about position (which way to face and on which spot) with groundsheet pegged out, which once agreed can't be changed and then a set of tasks which we each perform.  I get poles ready he lays out tent and then a set method of erection.  Once standing, which a Monty does quite well on its own, he pegs and I unpack.  Works really well. No discussion other than chats about weather ect.

We came to an agreement after listening to a couple fight on the next pitch.  My OH realised that many of the comments made by the male next door were similar to ones he made and which sounded very 'narky'. Not wishing to present such an image an agreement was reached.

I feel like I have moved a mountain and I did nothing.  It has only taken 27 years but it just shows one has to see the light to bring about change in oneself and nagging from other does not work.

I will have to enlist the help of others for the toilet seat, the workbenches and the clothes on the bedroom floor.
