HI, thank you.  I really like the Gelert Michigan 8, its the sort of tent that I had in mind.

Thanks for the advice about the pup tent.  We have just come back from a week in our trailer tent and there were loads of pup there.  Not sure if any of mine would want to sleep out on their own. (eldest is only 9).  We have a small tent that we sometimes put in the trailer tent as none of the kids like sleeping in the underbeds.  I think they think it will collapse and we will crush them, which I have to admit I am always a little paranoid about too which is probably why I am convincing myself that we would be better with a tent for the long weekends lol.

The site that we are booked onto in october has ALL extras free the weekend we are going which is great.  We can take the pup tent, extra car and and gazebo if we wanted to for no extra charge as long as it can fit on to our 9 x 9 pitch.

Definiately going to steer clear of the cheaper argos make tents.  We have already been stung with a b****** c**** rage tent!!

I bought a Pro Action Nevada 5 for weekends and tried it out last w/end.

Great layout, up in 20 mins, big enough for 2/3 but no more.

Quality is c*** but I knew that before I bought it.

Its a fair weather tent and no more. You can see daylight through the stitching and if it rained it would act like a sieve. (ok for straining rice haha).

However, it was bought just for w/end's with "no rain forecast".

If I'd had the dosh, I would have bought an Outwell Arizona XL or Indiana 4.

But I've no money left after 4 camping trips and a holiday to Centerparcs in Holland!!

Avoid! you'll only end up buying something else next year.

Thank you.  I will definately avoid the pro-action tents now.  Still not quite made up my mind what I am going to go for yet though.

I am in the same position!
I actually bought a pro action tent this summer, figuring it was only for 3 nights with a group of friends, it would be OK.
It wasn't OK.
Bits came off as I put it up the first time - and yes it rained.
The tent leaked all night.
After my 3 day break I took it back, slightly muddy of course, and told Argos it wasn't fit for purpose.
Got a full refund so can't complain.
But I won't buy another cheap tent - ever.
Now looking for a decent size bargain, easy to put up with 2 kids helping, not too heavy. I like the look of the Indiana 4 or the Michigan 8 as mentioned, but where do you cook in the rain?

Yes, thats the problem I am having.  My hubby is 6'4" and with 4 kids we really need loads of living space.  I am tempted to not bother with a tent just yet and wait until next year. I think we will just take our trailer tent away for the 3 nights.  I though a tent would be a bit warmer in the colder months as they are more compact and enclosed than the trailer tent which lets draughts in from all angles.  Will have to have a good think.

i find my trailer tent warmer than my tents. canvas does tend to hold the heat better.

We bought one and the poles broke in not very much wind at all!  We ended up cutting our holiday short after spending the night in the car. I was not a happy bunny.

The flaps over the ventilation panels are badly designed too, in the slightest breeze, the wind blows the rain in through them.

I have only been in one Pro-Action tent.  It belongs to a friend of mine and it's rubbish; it doesn't pitch properly.  After one night's experience I will not be putting Pro-Action tents on any "to-be-considered" list.

wow, great price for a good tent.  Think we maybe need something a little larger though.  We are going away mid october so need some room inside for cooking and the kids to play if (and no doubt it will) it rains.

My budget is around £150, is that realistic?

We've got a Gelert Utah 4+4, which would sleep 8 people no problem, or 4 people with loads of living space. It only cost us £119 from world of camping, and its probably a good buy for you if you only want to use the tent for weekend camping etc. Theres the OH and me and the 3 kids, and we love the tent. See our gallery, if you need some images of it. Good luck.
