Hi Amanda
I've just read through this thread and had a peek at the Vango you're thinking of buying. It looks great but there a couple of things worth thinking about.
First, the bedrooms are separate and on opposite sides of the tent which means you'd either have to put the kids by themselves or share with a child each (which is what we did when we used our dome tent because it didn't feel safe having the kids sleeping away from us).
Second, it pitches inner first and we've found ourselves very soggy and bad tempered after spending that extra bit of time in the rain that it takes to put up the inner and outer layers.
We've now bought a Montana 6 which is quick to pitch and has tons of space. The bedrooms are next to each other and the divider can be taken down to make one big bedroom. It's perfect for us but you'll also find loads of good recommendations on this site for other tents. It's a brilliant website and the advice people give is excellent!

Hi,
Have just returned from our first camping trip. Hollands Wood in the New Forest and had a great time.
Got the bug now!
Could you please advise me on the best tents..
We have a Colemans, Sahara, Vis a Vis (4 berth). Its a fab little tent, only prob being the little part.
There's only 4 of us but by the time we'd got out stuff in the living bit and beds in the sleeping areas it was packed in there. No where to store outdoor kids toys etc.
Whats the best tent, for say 6-8 persons? Whats the best makes?
Would really appreciate any help.
Thankyou!
Hi chomper,
If you are not confused now which tent to get, then good for you, One of the members recommended that you go to a few camping shops were you can see the tents erected.
As with most things you get what you pay for, so after you find the tent you like look on Free Adverts on this site.
The more experienced campers will tell you that canvas tents are best they are more reliable and will never let you down with bad weather, provided they are looked after properly, and are far more stable in strong winds, and frame tents are easier to erect, in my opinion. But they weigh up to three times the weight of nylon, and will cost three time as much new.
I don't know who first said this but I believe it to be true. If there are four of you by a six berth and so on.
But I would now spend the winter going to camping outlets were they have tents on display and will be able to put in an offer for the tent you would like. Good luck in your search for your portable country home.

Can I suggest that you make good use of the search facility on this site when deciding on a tent. See what you like the look of, then search for it here for others' opinion. Regarding eBay, no matter what tent you are bidding on it is still buyer beware, there are a few horror stories on this site, including my own, about many makes of tent bought from eBay.
