Does it cover theft if you are not actually in your tent?  Most policies exclude theft if you are absent.

Safeway - Great example - If you'd only brought your tent last year then you would get a new one as the cover is New for Old within the first 2 years!!!!

Clegg - Excess is £35 I believe (not at work at the mo)

I dont log on here often enough to answer any further questions, if you are genuinly interested and would like to discuss things further then call the office, if you'd rather not have Insurance then I hope you're right and the events are so rare that you'd never need it

Hmm, this might not be an advert but its darn close.

Anyway, my advice as a first port of call would be to check your household 'All Risks' section before buying any specialist cover as it may not cover all eventualities, but it might cover most.

I checked with More Than last year and my tent and all the camping equipment was covered as standard under the all risks section up to a set article limit (I can't remember what that was but it was enough for the tent) - it included for example vandalism, fire, ripping it etc. because those were the scenarios I presented to them. Bikes on the other hand would not be covered unless they were locked to an immovable object - so locked to the car bike rack didn't count as cars move (?)

I phoned club care and they cover you for theft, fire, flood, storm damage whether you are in the tent or not.  My household cover did not cover it when we were on holiday.  I think as our tents get older we may not bother, but you spend a lot on equipment and it would be so costly to get new stuff.  I will be paying £50 to cover both my tents, at £600 each, £200 personal belongings and £600 equipment.    I only use one tent at a time, but both have to be named to be on the policy as it covers you at home, in storeage etc.

Is that just the tent?  I'm looking at getting insurance & spoken to them today & been told they would cover tent for theft if unoccupied but not contents/eqipment!?!  Only one I can find so far to cover equipment whilst unattended is Towergate Bakers but don't know what kind of reputation they have. Am beginning to think it's more trouble than it's worth

Spideygirl, please let me know what the answer is as we still haven't sorted anything out so would be good to know before I make the final decision on who to go with.  Thanks

I would like to know for sure whether I'm covered while I'm on holiday.  I know my household policy covers my tent and equipment while it's in the house.

Someone mentioned the All Risks section of your policy, but there is usually a single article limit and if your stuff exceeds this you would need to have it as a specified item on the policy. This is usually used for items of expensive jewellery that you wear whilst out and about.  But does All Risks cover your tent whilst on holiday?  Or do we need to get a specialist insurance policy for that?
