Without knowing either the site or the layout of that particular tent it is difficult to comment.
However it is possible that the council/fire brigade have impossed stricter regualtions on the site.
Also with the current popularity of camping, some site will have cashed in and made their pitched smaller to fit in extra tents and still comply with various safety rules and regs.     Chop a metre off all your pitch sizes and you can fit in a couple of extras tent, which means extra revenue.

We go to a site in Bude and  pitches isn't marked  out, yet went to one  in Paignton and pitches were all marked! When you  have a big tent it's difficult to keep within your pitch due to guy ropes.

I totally agree with Val, but with the proviso that the dealers should warn purchasers that there may be problems with very big tents.
