it was getting a battering at that yeomanns show... really strong wind... the photo perhaps didn't do justice to just how badly the tent seemed to be coping with the wind compared to all the others pitched around it... maybe that one was just badly pitched... maybe it was a bad design and that's why they've changed the pole... have to say I'd be emailing outwell to ask for a replacement if any damage had been done to a new tent due to bad design... can't wait myself to go window shopping at a yeomanns show... "love it"... even though I'm not in the market for a tent, i just love walking round the shows...

I'm with you on the "need" to go round tent shows. As I noted in this thread it was interesting to note the little improvements and inovations made each year.

Now repeat after me: "I don't need a new tent. I don't need a new tent. I don't need a new tent."

That one confuses me. Unless they began to introduce the upgrade mid-season?

Just been to our brand new GO outdoors and saw this tent, now we have a 20 month old the SIG is looking very tempting. I believe that the 2010 is slightly different in design of one pole. Does anyone know in what way and how can I verify that I am getting the 2010 model. (been stung before on my Wynnster)

Our first trip away is due at then end of may and would love a tent with SIG only other one I have looked at is the Vango Orchy 500 - on the premise that domes are more stable in wind (a contentious point I know )

Cheers

Its worth noting that the improvements in the orchy with the front pole now going to the ground (making it semi-geodesic) will improve its stability greatly. The old shape of the orchy sometimes collapsed in high winds.

Tall domes are not as stable as low level ones unless they are semi-geodesic/ geodesic - the extra cross-over points mean that the poles push against each other in windy conditions, cutting down flexing, which is otherwise substantial with long fibreglass poles. That is why Vango's TBS is essential in fibreglass poled tunnels (don't know why other manufacturers don't do similar).

Helen

I saw a new Orchy 500 on display. It was a covered display and few of the guy ropes were pegged out byt that new front pole massively improves stability.

I've just noted that I've started to use "massively" far too much.
