My girlfriend and I are currently in the same situation, having camped for the last couple of years (not constantly!) in an easy camp Messina 400 to see if camping was for us. The good news is that it is! We decided we needed more living space for longer trips, and we'd arrived at pretty much the same conclusion as you guys, the outwell Carolina 3 looks the business.
Thing is, I can't find a good deal on it anywhere on the Internet (even eBay). I know it's a fairly newly released tent, so I can understand why, but does anyone know when tent sales start? Or should I just get down to a showroom and try some good old fashioned haggling? Maybe it just represents good value at the price it is.
I think the best price is £195 , but It typically is £199. BCH camping is doing 20% off first internet order , so if you ere buying tent, carpet , footprint etc, could be worth while. So if you got the three items together it would be £270.On that basis , if you wanted all three items , I would push for a deal of £250 or less.
I know, I get the feeling that there are probably tents that are comparable but maybe older/ cheaper, but my heart is rather set on the Carolina 3 as it looks so cool! I'm kind of holding off in the vague hope that someone does a good offer on it. Wishful thinking I'm sure!
I'm also still unsure about the whole carpet thing, I've never heard of such a thing until I came on here, but it does sound tempting, oh dear the costs are edging higher and higher....

Carpets really do make a huge difference, however, if you really dont want to fork out for one at the moment a couple of plastic backed picnic rugs do the job just as well, I'd argue better, because you can shove them in the washing machine. Why not try a couple of rugs, if you like it then you can go the whole hog or you may just feel the rugs are more than adequate!
Thats a good tip, thank you. My boyfriend has warned me not to go overboard on the spending... already have my eye on a double sleeping bag which is £50, and obviously need all the basics for cooking etc.
Think I might bite the bullet and order my Carolina 3, I keep looking at it and its not getting any less lovely each time :)
I'm after a weekender and if it was only the two of us and the dogs I'd have it like a shot. Its a lovely tent, have you seen it up? You know also that the poles are steel?
I haven't seen it up, I'm trying to find somewhere near me to see it. And I'm afraid that steel poles are a bit lost on me, but I take it they're a good thing? I never realised how little I knew about tents until I came on here! All I do know is that Ive always loved the adventure of making your own little base somewhere and being on site with that atmosphere you get, and sitting outside drinking wine watching the stars! I am SO excited about going away in July!! :)
Steel poles are good as long as your not too limited by weight and space (you wouldnt want to carry it far). I have a monty 6 which has steel poles - its very stable in winds unlike the fibreglass poles which tent to bend quite dramatically.
You really ought to try and see it up - where abouts are you? I'm sure someone will know of a display near you where you can see it in the flesh.
Im in south east London, it would be great to see it up before spending the money on it! I guess I might even be able to strike a bit of a deal with accessories etc... I've tried to find somewhere nearby but no luck yet.
