Hi

Just a quick note for anyone who thinks they have an extra strap hanging down from the flysheet at the back/top/middle of their Outwell.

The extra strap is to take a kids bedroom if you want one. So this is how the straps should be....I hope this helps a little.

Regards

Gary, so is it correct that there should be 4 straps at the front of the inner tent (2 each side) and only one at the back?

This would mean that if you only want to pitch half the inner then it has to be the half that has the rear strap on it? Doesn't seem right to me.

Hi Chris

I would definately take the tent back. If the seams were leaking the tent is faulty, and if there was a strap missing the tent is not complete. These things have not happened through wear and tear.

If goods are faulty it is the resposibility of the retailer to exchange or refund. We contacted Greatoutdoors recently just because there was a pin hole in the roof of a porch, they never hesitated about exchanging it, that's the service you want!

Good luck

Hi.

We were lucky, we hadn't collected our Kampa Lulworth 6 as the retailer had been waiting for new stock.  They had been selling really well and during the hot dry spell nobody had discovered the problem.  Then 3 were returned in as many days and the demo model was leaking like a seive!   They could have just sold it to us, but he explained about the fault and was upfront and honest.  All credit to him as I'm sure many would have said nothing and sold it.

It is a shame.  If Kampa address the issues then it could be a fantastic tent.

Unfortunately it seems to be the way the world is going now.  Big companies mass producing stuff with no thought or care for either their workers or the finished product.  As long as they get the pounds in their pocket they are happy and the only way we can get things to change is to fight back.  Take the tents back, dont settle for bad quality complain and dont stop until you get your money back or the goods replaced for decent ones.  We are too happy to accept rubbish and say ahh well never mind we will make do.  In the end, hit them where it hurts, in their pocket by swapping brands and making sure you let as many people as possible know of the problems you faced.

Rant over now lol 17

Hi folks, thanks for the responses!

Unfortunately the place I bought it from (who will remain nameless for now) are being quite awkward about it - they are talking about a 28 day "inspection period" so that they can get Outwell involved, and they also haven't responded to my email despite promising to answer it the next day. I think this is highly unreasonable as this isn't a return under warranty, this is a return of goods that were inherently faulty on delivery.

I'm pretty sick about the whole thing but I agree with you guys that it should go back and we shouldn't settle for shoddy goods.

I'll keep you informed!

Hi BlueC,

Sorry you having difficulties, stick to your guns and demand a refund.
As this is a new tent you are covered by the sale of goods act.If you don't get any satisfaction contact your local trading standards office, and let the retailer you are doing so.
Also if you are still unhappy with this company, name and shame them on here to warn others

Just had a phone call from Laura at Outdoor Megastore: they are happy to replace the whole tent no problem at all. She says they have never had a problem with a Bear Lake before - I find this hard to believe but hey ho.

Will pick the replacement up on Friday and give it a test pitch over the weekend before we go away next week.

They really gave me the run around at first on the phone but just shows what a carefully worded but friendly email can do!

Well done Outdoor Megastore, your reputation remains in tact!

Chris

Phew, test it chris and give it a darn good soaking, you should then see any issues before the big day, fingers crossed....17
