I've just bought a Queucha tent off Ebay and the bag is MUCH bigger than I thought it was gonna be, even though the tent is only 30KGs

We haven't pitched it yet, but if we can't roll it up a bit smaller than the person we bought it from it will be going back on Ebay... and we've got a Zafira.

Me and my better half used to struggle (just the two of us!) with an old cheepie 4 berth tent and all our "crap" in a Renault Megane (old old shape) coupe, and we towed a trailer too, which was also rammed!  Perhaps we didn't know how to pack stuff properly!

We're off on our first camping trip next week for the first time in several years and with our 2 year old for her first camping trip.  Same trailer (erde 102), but a good old Cavalier hatchback for the car.  Fingers crossed we have enough room.  The Vango Diablo we now have is, I have noticed, quite a bit heavier than our old Easycamp tent packed. :)

you can get roof bars really cheap, got some for my last car for about £25 as i knew i would be changing the car in a years time. they weren't the nicest looking and probably not very fuel efficient though! roofbox can be used on any car unless you buy one a lot smaller!
we also have a 'safebag' from roofbox.co.uk in the boot when we go away (for estates or mpvs) then we can load the car right up to the ceiling, that with the biggest roofbox we could find, we manage to get everything in!
we take 4 bikes too (one on the roof and 3 on the back), so our car is probably a lot heavier when we go camping.
i think most camping equipment is very lightweight, it's mainly the tent that is heavy

That looks like a lovely Tent, my daughter goes camping with a 206 & she only takes a small tent. Her car is quite full by the time the kitchen sink goes in.

your tent looks nice though & if you click on the link below, you can go to the bottom of the page on the right & watch a pitching video of it & all the Vango range.http://www.vango.co.uk/tents/maritsa-700.html As far as weight is concerned you should be fine, it'll only be space that'll catch you out with 4 of you in the car restricting the lowering of the back seat.

I have a Peugot 107 just for me an a little dog, but I find it a struggle to fit everything in. Tent, cooker, table, chair and sleeping things and dog crate.

When I take my two grandchildren out for a day, the two child seats take up all the space on the back seat.

My daughter suggested taking one of them camping with me, but there is no chance of fitting him in at all.

You will be very cramped and packed tight, a roof rack seems like a fabulous idea, or maybe a small trailer.

thanks for all your suggestions. We put the tent up in the garden at the weekend (only just got it all in!) and it is enormous, the kids were thrilled! In hindsight maybe the 500 would have done us but never mind, a tent is for life! We think we can get the tent on the back seats in the middle between the 2 kids (they have small bums and only smallest is in a big car seat, other just has a cushion). I think if we don't take food and beer with us but just buy it on site we can manage. CLothes etc.. will be at a minimum too.
We aren't keen to get a roofbox as when the kids get a bit older we intend to take our bikes on the roof, and a trailer is out as we don't have a garage for storage (tent is in loft - that was fun getting it up there!).
K :)
