If you would consider 2nd hand , we are selling our Khyam Ultimate Rigidome XL with 4 berth and 2 berth inners. Also selling our Franc GE133 trailer with ABS lid and all the other parphenalia associated with camping. We have brought our Trailer Tent back from France as I can no longer camp on the ground - back problems! Someone will get a great bargain and holidays for years to come!

Thanks for the offer but would prefer to get new.

Quick question for all re the polycotton flysheet on the Carrera, it is stated as being Protex CM 1500. I presume a HH of 1500 is not great - am I correct?

Hi there, we also have 5 children, and have a Vango Colorado 800dlx. The advantage to this is that the rear bedroom is large, and separates by a curtain, we have had two double airbeds in there, potentially it would sleep either two adults and two smaller children in there, or 4 children leaving the other two bedrooms for the other three. Although the other two bedrooms are smaller, myself and my husband often sleep in one, again a double airbed fits in there. The great thing about this tent is that the living area is big enough to seat all of you round a table, and the front entrance area is also large, we keep our camping fridge in there, along with all the other paraphernalia,of which there is plenty with 5 children as you know! We have also got the porch extension which is great for cooking in, and dumoing shoes, kites, washing up etc. This tent is not too large in dimensions and yet has all the space we need inside. Should be renamed the Vango Tardis really! We have never had trouble fitting it onto a standard size pitch, and best of all the main tent only cost £250 or so, so with the porch also would be well within your budget. I have posted a review on here, so check it out. Good luck with your search!

I am only guessing but I suspect that the 1500 is the level of waterproofing they've added for the polyester component, which would top up the natural waterproofness of the cotton component. Worth asking a dealer for clarification.

Just a thought - have you seen the Vango Columbia 600 - 5000HH, steel poles, 2/3 bedrooms, enclosed wet weather side entrance, full or part opening front, large open living area but straight forward 4 pole tunnel to pitch. Discontinued this year but still a few around at £280 (£450 RRP last year). The footprint and carpet for the 2010 Sungari 600 will fit, as will the sage canopy for the Sungari. Polyester, but in Vango's premium tent range last year - a real bargain for the spec. It's a lovely tent!!!

The bedrooms will allow 2 children to be alongside you in a split room (you can re-tuck them in without getting out of bed) while the oldest can have their own room alongside too. The enclosed side entrance is a good shoes off and dirty toys point and toilet area. Saves the carpet!!

Helen

Again, a big thanks to everyone for your advice along the way earlier this year. In the end, we went for the Vango Carrera 800 and made the right decision for us. I posted a review, copy below:

Purchased this for Summer 2010 for family of adults and 5 kids.

Used on 2 trips. One full week and a seperate weekend.

In summary, I am very pleased. 4
separate rooms which each hold full size air beds. Lovely central area with plenty of standing height.

Polycotton was great. No condensation.

Tent is heavy and bag is big. Much of weight is due to the heavy duty poles and the flysheet. Erection time is about 1.5 hours (includes putting in the inner rooms. Pins are poor and bend easily.

Lots of people admired the tent, its size and poles drawing the initial intention.

I purchased it from Highbridge Caravans who were first class. Tent was delivered to Ireland and wheel on the wheelie bag broke in transit. HC arranged for a replacement to be sent out immediately. Really good service.
