LOL Sue, you're right, I meant the Florida 6 - told you I was getting confused! ;-) I did see that the C&C club quoted 5m x 9m so we thought we'd be fine with all of those, but then there's a lovely looking site in Brean (not too far a run for us so one we will possibly want to use more often if we like it there....) and they will only take a maximum length of 7m. I think the ones I quoted are all around 7.7/7.8m - did wonder whether we could possibly get away with it but they ask for the tent make and size when you book so probably not.

I know there are bound to be loads more sites that will take longer tents but if we like this site and want to use it often I figure we might be better taking that into account now? I didn't realise camping would be so complicated! LOL!

Oh, and don't get me started on the whole polycotton debate because that really does throw the spanner in the works! LOL! Our garden isn't big enough to put one up to weather it though - not sure it would keep us dry enough if it rained and we hadn't been able to weather it?

Kathryn

Kat67: there do seem to be quite a few people struggling to get their bigger tents on to campsites, even though you wouldn't have thought it would be a problem. It is something to bear in mind ... annoyingly.

As far as the modern polycotton tents are concerned I don't think they need much in the way of weathering, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

I really like the Trout Lake. It's a top quality tent. I know that all the Outwell Lakes cost a lot of money, but to be honest I think they're worth every penny. So long as you get a bit of money off ... obviously

We got ours for £459.00.... best i could find at the time - and we got a discount on the carpet which was soooooo nice under foot.

Just need to invest in the Footprint and I'm contemplating on the Front Extension - but I need to ask some questions on here about it first!

Yeah, the lady I spoke to yesterday on the Brean site said that a lot of campsites are now imposing stricter tent sizes. I wondered whether this meant that camping has become a lot more popular of late - maybe a sign of the economic climate? Anyhoo, the Holkham 6 is another contender then. It's basically the Filey 6 but the polycotton version. I do like the idea of it keeping us cooler in warm weather and warmer in cooler weather. Was just worried about the weathering because they mentioned it on the website. To be fair, I did think it would get a weathering when pitched anyway and I just read another thread (Sue and Phil's Bear Lake one I think it was) where someone said it should be ok.

Well, thank you all for your replies and help even though I seem to have hijacked the original thread! :)

You're absolutely right - Polycotton doesn't need weathering at all. We didn't weather ours and on the third day it rained... not a drop anywhere inside!

I think its because of the mix - unlike cotton that need to be watered first - the polyester part of it is what makes it immediately waterproof.

I like the Holkham, but in the end the groundsheet put me off. Most polycotton tents use a heavy PVC one, but not Kampa. If the top half of your tent is hopefully going to last 20 years or more, personally it'd be aiming for the same from the bottom half. The best reason I've been given for them not going down this route is saving on weight. You could always add extra protection for the ZIG I suppose.

Hi there,

Thanks to everyone for there help.

Does anyone know anywhere in Staffordshire (I live in Rugeley) where ther is either a Kampa Croyde 6 or an Outwell Arkansas 5 on show, that we can have a look at.

Also, unsure if this is the right area of the forum, but we would consider a second hand model of either of the above if anyone has one? (I did contact at Arkansas 5 seller on the for sale bit but got no reply)

Is there a wanted section on here?

Cheers

Lee

The Croyde only came out this year, but you may be lucky... I'd be nervous about a second hand ployester tent - as to how much UV exposure, wear and tear it will have had, reducing its effective life span.

For displays - there is a map on Kampa's website of dealers they deal with. Ring before turning up to make sure they have what you want on display. Kampa only deal with smaller independents that can display their tents.

Lee, we viewed an Arkansas 5 at Codsall and Wergs Garden Centre - there's a Yeomans Store there. Don't think they stock Kampa though. There is a camping store in Newport on the way to Telford but I called them today to see if they had a Filey in and apparently they have no Kampa tents in at all and unlikely to have any until the beginning of next season! So, don't bother trying there lol!
