I think you are reading too much into specifications of cheap tents & by cheap I mean any nylon tent under about £250. The specification is meaningless really. Any cheap nylon tent will be waterproof if its properly made. All nylon tents are made in China & as the importers don't unwrap & check every tent faulty ones will slip thru.

I'm sure the tent in your link will be as good or bad as any similar tent. If you want a quailty tent you need a canvas tent. £600 or much more.

That's exactly what I'm wondering Paul.. is it based on real fact or a touch of brand snobbery!! ;)

I wouldnt say brand snobbery if you have a look at some of the tents i advised you to look at there not paticulaly expensive brands its just i feel they will give you better quality for your money which i think was what you where orginaly looking for

Yes I see where you are coming from & thanks for replying but I'm not sure you did give me any actual advice :)

I'm still not any wiser as to what it is exactly about this tent that makes it a bad tent other than the fact that it's not a top brand name...???

I'm not convinced I need this tent lol but was looking for advice on the specs etc in relation to price...

Yes I see, I'm not sure if you saw the answer I posted about the Atlantis... I did have a look at that but it seemed to be marketed as a 'light use' tent on the site, so that put me off a bit!

Lol very true!! What I would REALLY like is a Bell Tent or something similiar :) I more or less grew up under canvas but unfortunately that isn't an option for me at the moment! :0

Hello Moon Priestess,

If you want something easy to pitch and like bell tents, have a look at the Hypercamp Djakarta and/or Eldorado canvas pyramid tents. (In the reviews section, lots of photos too)

I too am a single mum, and did quite a bit of research earlier in the year re easy pitching, quality, sturdiness, practicality etc.

I got the Djakarta and am sooooooooo glad I did. It can be ordered from Obelink in Holland very easily, and cost about £150. Bargain for a canvas tent

Interesting posts regarding good/bad, cheap/expensive.

I've had the outer of my dome tent (cheap Chinese model) erected in the garden since the 19th of August 2010, with all the weather we've had in that time I'm surprised it's still standing.

More importantly, despite the HHP being only 1500mm, there has not been any leakage. My wife needed to clear some things out of the spare bedroom, so we used the tent outer as storage. All the goods are still dry.

Despite the cost, and build quality issues, it's still performing well.

As has been stated earlier, if it's keeping you dry, and has enough room to be comfortable, what has cost or brand got to do with it?

Methinks the answer lies in a previous post. LOL

Regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.
