A definete YES We went to see it yesterday when it was really windy here and it stood there like a gentle breeze was tickling it.  The polyester tents were in shreds but the Holham was fantastic.  It's been up all season like the rest but you'd not know it to look at it.  It's a shame they don't do it in an 8 berth :(

Hi Ashwellgirl

Thanks for that, you have made my day, it looks
a super tent and ticks all the boxes for us, we
camp in Cornwall and always have
a few days of high winds, so this will be just
what we need especially being able to close
in the front with the optional vestibule.

This thread seems to have turned into a 'Canvas is Best' thread again. Although I'm a canvas convert through and through, I was really interested to read why some people have gone back to poly.

I am with Val and erroutdoors. While we too are Canvas converts because the upsides of Canvas are important (to us) and the downsides are not an issue (to us)

People camp for all sorts of reasons in all manner of ways and polyester does give you lighter, cheaper and lower hassle tentage

We appreciate the benefits of Canvas and accept the bulk/transport/storage/care issues - part of the reason for threads (and fora) like this is to help people make informed decisions surely

If I was still regularly camping with a motorbike polyester would be the obvious answer. Or if I wanted a 5 berth summer tent for £100 polyester would be the only answer (buying new anyhow)

But I do still feel a little frustration that good affordable Canvas is so hard to see and buy in UK (but not in EU) and most people dont get to choose - it's like we are being dictated to (manipulated even) be the retailers/wholesalers

I prefer canvas, but had to use my Vango Aspen plastic tent when camping in Norfolk this summer. It's a full SIG tent, but was still full of earwigs when it came to break camp. If there's earwigs in the area, then I'm sure they will get in, what ever the tent is made of.

I still have bad memories of carrying a canvas tent 9 miles down a valley in Iceland many years ago - heaviest thing in the world!  I dread to think what the family sized versions weigh.  However, I also remember the storms we had and the fact that everyone else spent half their nights tending to their lightweight tents while we slept peacefully through all the bad weather.  Like everything else - pros & cons....

 Canvas doesn't really work for me, its far too heavy and bulky (for me). I live on my own and mostly camp on my own and my tents are stored in the loft, its almost impossible to get my bell tent up the ladders.The bell tents only been used twice and the last time I spent the last day of my holiday in a bad mood because I knew I would have to haul yards of sopping wet canvas into my dining room to try to dry it.

 I'd love to camp under canvas all the time because of all the benefits, but for me, its just not practical.

I think it is a shame that the cheap tents on the market put people off polyester altogether. If you buy a decent quality tent then they can be just as good as canvas in my opinion.

We have a Khyam Ultimate Deluxe and the quality is amazing. We have used it in gales in the UK and in the baking sun of the South of France for about 5 years and it is still as good as new.

It wasn't cheap (£500) but is spacious and comfortable, strong and always draws admiring comments from fellow campers.

We also have a Quechua 4.2 which we love to bits - another tent that is very reliable in bad conditions.
