hi Cali,
i go on my own with a 3,5 and 7 year old... its easy as a single mum once you get organised :-)
last year we used a mojave 5, really easy to do by myself, and loads of room for the kids, plus seperate space for me and all the gear.

good luck... and happy holidays with your little ones

Most of the tunnel-vis a vis tents should be easy to pitch on your own with a bit of practice

I am a single mum of a 6 year old and 4 year old and this is my second year camping.  I have the Khyam Chatsworth and it is a lovely tent to put up (has the rapidex system which is easy once you have the knack) for long stays and the Hypercamp Djakarta for weekend stays.

I tend to run putting the tent up like a military exercise and both my 2 have jobs that they are in charge of (putting the things on the camping kitchen, rolling out the Fat Airics and opening the air valves etc) and I intend to up that responsibility as they get older.  They also know to stay well away from me hitting in the tent pegs and guy ropes...ha ha!

I am so glad I found camping and I truly find it a joy with my 2, hope you enjoy it as much as well!

Hi there :-)

If you like your Monty 6 what about the Outwell Oakland XL (should be up at Go Outdoors at the moment). It still has plenty of space for the kids but a bit more manageable. We just downsized to it from our 6 man tent (we also have 2 kids). I put it up in the garden myself yesterday (I am female 5'4'' & not that fit). I huffed and stretched a bit and it took me nearly an hour as it is the first time putting it up so was trying to work it out and I am sure I will get quicker and will be able to do it in half an hour easily. It has 2 steel poles so once you wiggle them up the tent stands up on its own whilst you put bendy poles in and peg out. The bag is very heavy though (so see if you can lift it in the store- I took the pole bag out and carried them separately as they come all in one bag). There is also the Nevada M which is lighter and apparently quite easy to erect and has only a little less space. You can get extensions for both to add to the outdoor space for cooking and eating under etc

Any tent shows near you- look on the Yeomans website. They also gave me good tips about how to get the tent up easily solo (different and better methods to the outwell u tube clips).

Hi, well have a new tent on order - finally went for the Vango Icarus 500, hasn't arrived yet but not going away for another 6 weeks so plenty time to practice putting it up.

Thank you for all the responses, really looking forward to going away this summer - just need the weather to improve

In actual fact you should be able to pitch the Monty on your own with a bit of practise. I pitch our Outwell Vermont on my own and its a lot bigger

Good luck with your Icarus

I would love to be able to pitch my monty on my own, although even when pitching with 2, can get it done v quickly, it is still quite an effort for me.

Might give it a go someday!

If you can get hold of this Vango wigwam tent with a wee porch - Vango Green Tee - it only has one pole to put up - I did it on my own in under 10 minutes - great fun for wee ones (and grown ups too!)
