You can get a new Outwell tent from the Argos ebay outlet for £100, we have the 4 man and it does us fine, 2 adults 2 kids and the dog (having said that it was a major upgrade from a 2 man dome tent that we used with 2 adults, 1 kid and the dog...)

A too small tent will put you off for ever unless you get gloroious weather and stay outside the whole time! Your tent should be the best you can afford imo and at least 2 people bigger than the number of people in it.

Keeping dry and warm are the 2 most important things imo, so a  good tent and warm bedding is essential. Bedding you can take from home, but it's a good idea to take extra fleece blankets - one to go under the bottom sheet and a couple to go on top of the duvet if it's colder than you think. Warm pj's are a must, too. You can insulate under your airbed with old newspapers for now, and invest in foam-backed picnic rugs or tent carpet when you know camping's for you.

As well as the outlets mentioned above, Ikea is a good source of cheap blankets and kitchen stuff.

Welcome to the forum

All I can do is echo all of the above, tent and bedding most important,if you are warm and dry then you will enjoy it,I too would steer away from cheap "packages" as for the price they cannot possibly be much good, particularly sleeping bags (ready beds are another waste of money imo). Second hand is just as good and there are some great bargains at the moment as people are "upgrading" with the new sesasons tents.

Primark are another place to get cheap fleeces.

Have a great trip!
