I apologise in advance to EVERYONE who loves Karsten tents, and I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about them, ....but.... out of curiosity I looked at some, and im struggling to see what the appeal is ???. Before you all attack, im referring to looks. ?.. im afraid I just dont like the LOOK of them .....sorry if I have offended anyone.....

I know nothing about Karsten tents either, and as they are so expensive I've never bothered to look at them - but now I'm curious.....

Karsten tents are one of those things where until you see one in the flesh you may never get it...

Well said Gary and spot on, for me having seen a Karsten both on display and at campsites I would say they are worth the money.

Yep chrisma, the Cabanon Awaya 370 c/w with Sun-Canopy is now £2k and all Cabanon Biscaya's are now only available in "All Season Polyester".

I guess I was just in the right place at the right time when I bought my "Cotton" 370.

Well I do like the looks but for me it is not the most important thing. To me they epitomise happy camping. I searched several forums and so far could not find a single unhappy user (at least as long as they were first owners and looked after them- drying them etc). Not a single report of a leak or tent being folded down by strong wind etc. (One could argue that Karstens are very rare and so less likely to appear in any comments - good or bad). They are sturdy, quiet in wind, warm in cold weather and cool(er) in the summer. So if you go to the south of France and enjoy a lie-in you will probably be the last person to leave your tent on a hot, sunny morning. They can be easily and quickly put up by 1 person. Yes, they are expensive but they are modular so if I can't afford to buy all I want rather than buying a new tent when my needs grow - each time I save some money I just buy the bits I need and keep on extending it. Since my wife heard some 'horror' stories from her friends who went camping and got a bit wet she is a little apprehensive but willing to give it a go. I think Karsten will keep her happy but if one day I have to sell it the re-sale values of second hand ones are very good too. You can check dutch website marktplaats where people sell 15 years old Karstens and still expect to be paid hundreds of euros because these tents last.

I have to say I am very open minded about most things, and I will keep an eye out to see one in the flesh so to speak, but I doubt i could ever be able to afford such luxury, and probably wouldn't be able to camp as often as I would like to justify the cost, but I do accept that in a lot of cases you get what you pay for.
So if your lucky enough to own one......happy days, and happy camping

I think I need to take back what I said about never seeing a comment about Karsten tent leaking. I have just found an advert on Marktplaatz where the seller admits the tent had to be repaired by manufacturer due to leaks. Unfortunately there is no mention of the age of the tent and how extensively it was used. Even though it might have just required a simple spray - my bubble finally burst. Karsten is still on top of my list but I will be checking reviews for 2013 inflatable models from other manufacturers.
