practise putting the new tent up. every time it`ll get faster and you`ll learn a little something (eg main door open when pitching helps, but zip it shut when pegging out. the wind/air filling the tent is like a helping hand hold it up and roughly peg front and back just to hold tent up instead of asking someone else

Thanks Bob61 for your input, and I'm feeling chuffed now, to learn that I have bought one of the easiest-to-erect of it's type! I am sure once I have found a routine that works for me, and the tent, that my speed will improve. I think I just have an inherent dislike of pitching tents. My last two caravans had awnings included, and they never saw the light of day during my ownership!

Ladycake: Thanks for the translation! I have to say I find the practice rather irritating. They may be easier/cheaper when texting but.... Oh dear, I am already earning a reputation as a moaner and I have only been posting on this forum for a short while! On one forum I know, the moderators banned the use of text-style format as they used to get so many complaints from other members!

okay some of the abreviations commonly used on forums everywhere:
op=original poster (you)
dh=dear husband
ds=dear son
dd=dear daughter
iyswim=if you see what i mean
dp=dear partner
sim=self inflating mat

i use them a lot, just quicker to type!

Just be careful with googling some of those. Unexpected results can occur

Specific Camping related ones are

SIM - self inflating mats (an alternative to air mattress)
SIG - Sewn in groundsheet
PIG - Pegged in groundsheet
ZIG - Zipped in groundsheet
EHU - Electric Hook Up

Stuart, I will forgive you for translating that abbreviation you posted, just 'cos it's so funny!

Oh, and Golden Oriole - is that a raptor, or a euphemism for Shangri La?(She says, thumbing through her wildlife book) Ah! smaller, but beautifully formed I see. It says in my book you need to go to East Anglia to see one, probably between May and August. Personally, I'd be just as happy to see a song thrush; a rarity indeed lately. How I miss their beautiful songs.

Ladycake: Negative Nancy? Just 'cos I don't like abbreviations? Each to their own!

Campernic: Thanks for that, you do indeed need to be careful with abbreviations, a fan of them such as Ladycake might find her signature represented as GBH! Obviously quite the opposite to the intended meaning. By the way, are Gym Bunny Hugs the sort of thing you'd expect from a Cuddle Monster? Just asking....

Most tents with poles in-line are pretty easy to erect by one person. Tents with poles running in all directions are the difficult ones. Perhaps tents with metal poles rather than fibreglass poles are even more easy as the poles slide through the sleeves more easily.

I have been camping in it's many forms for years and I too dread having to erect the tent every time I arrive on site...and even worse on going home day. I did change to a caravan a few years back but became frightened to death by all the do's and don'ts plus the cost of maintenance and storage that I decided a tent would be far less hassle despite the time it takes to erect it. I try to convince myself that erecting the tent is all part of the camping experience...not sure I am convinced enough!

If it wasn't for the cost I could quite easily use B&B's or statics as generally I use my tent simply for accommodation...the motive is to see different places and to get away from the daily routine of home life rather than the actual camping bit.

I expect you will work out a routine for erecting the tent pretty quickly but then as you start buying more and more gear trying to make it as comfortable as a caravan the time setting it all up may well increase - lol (laughed out loud).
