It's only 1.354kg and £66 for the polyester version. If I can tell it to someone in Patagonia with only a week use for about £40 it's worth me lugging it around for a month when I'm not camping.


The problem with the cloud up is how the fly is connected to the poles. It basically isn't except for the bottom clips. They have improved the guying but you are still going to get problems in wind due to the shape if not pitched the right way. The height makes it into a sail if the wind hits the side. Make sure you buy the upgrade version which has extra guy lines. All said it is supposed to be good quality workmanship for the price. Make sure you get the footprint included as this allows it to be pitched flysheet first. Essential in the rain.

Thanks for the thoughtful post. Seems like you know your stuff. How do I tell which one has the extra guy lines? The ones midway up the sides? From what I hear, all the camps at TdP for example are well sheltered.

Anything else in this prince range (including second hand) that you'd recommend? I realise ideally I'd spend 5x as much but I figure even a cheap thing from here will be better than the hire stuff there.

Even worse, its available brand new for £110. The seller is having a laugh pricing it at £160. I wouldn't even buy it for £30.

Buyer beware though.
Put it this way, I wouldn't take it anywhere serious. It is a copy of a Big Agnes tent. American tents have mainly mesh inners. Bloody freezing in wind.
However as it is for one trip I suppose you could risk it. Personally I would be looking in the region of £150 - £200 and would be keeping it for other trips.
Bear that in mind if it all goes pear shaped.

If you have any intention of hiking with poles (a generally excellent idea) you could consider a Trailstar copy from Aliexpress (£40), combined with a bivvy or winter inner.
