Good point about airing the grass, Jenhug, during a long stay, but I don't think I would like to lift my groundsheet and use the tent whilst the grass was airing, I would rather move the tent and get some fresh grass.  In which case, an easy pitch tent like a Weathermaster would be ideal, depending on how many people Glynn needs it for of course, as it would be a squash for more than 2. 

Steve, glad you've got your wife to agree to go camping with you, hope you pick a good week with warm sunny weather and she will love camping in the weathermaster.  My hubby has reluctantly agreed to go camping as we are taking the van off the road for a short time while we save up for the insurance.  (we have won a camping weekend at Truckfest, and he doesn't want to miss out).

Logged onto my yahoo account and had a pile of notifications.  Just knew this would be a good site to use as it seems so friendly.

After looking at all the advice I am leaning towards a SIG with a separate groundsheet underneath.  One of our main needs it to be able to keep the tent warm when necessary as my wife has MS and the cold can affect her.

We are likely to be in the tent for 2-3 months and will probably be on the first site for about 6 weeks.  We had already decided that we would move the tent around regularly to save the grass.  So a separate groundsheet will help keep the rest of the tent clean(ish)

The advice to view tents first is very sensible.  The only problem is where?  Have been looking for dealers in the Berks \ Hants \ Oxon area and have only found one near Thame that seems reasonably large.  Haveseen some tents there that seemed decent but would like to see plenty more before deciding.  After all it is going to be our home for a while.  All the rest of our goods will be in storage.

So more help PLEASE.  Where can we see some tents in the flesh.

You won a trip to truckfeast mmmmmmmm ok girl come clean who did you bribe, seeing you knew the van would be off the road and to get your OH into the Weathermaster (nice move hahaha) and if you work on him and make it seem so nice to go under fabric he will come with you eveytime hereafter. I got to hand it to you that was really sneaky hahahaha.

We had a bif canvas frame tent with 3 children.  Good head room, spacious airy, and light. .We have a smaller one now and love it.  We cook indoors in the kitchen area, unless we BBQ. You obviiusly need a big one ..can fit a table and chairs inside not problem.  My husband find the tunnels claustrophobic. and dark.

They are also excellent in bad weather, our stood up to some major winds.

Easy enough to move short distances without taking them down ..just unhook the tent pegs, and move the whole lot along a bit ......

Some (all?) of the Jack Wolfskin family tents have clip in bathtub groundsheets. I saw an Ocean View up on display and it had little zips in the raised sections of the groundsheet either side of each of the doorways, so you could drop down the 'sill' on any  door if it got heavy traffic and/or you were worried about someone tripping. And then zip it back up when you wanted to keep the drafts out.  Very clever. Excellent tents actually, smart looking, strong but very light, good design features - expensive! MT
