if the steel poles were starting to bend I really don't think any other tent would have faired much better other than a geodesic mountain tent! Tent poles will bend to a certain extent in high winds otherwise they'd just snap. We had ours up in very high winds indeed and although the tent did move and poles flexed it stood firm and sprung back to how it was supposed to be once the wind died down. The wind battering the tent can be alarming but I don't think it would have collapsed. IMO the fabric would tear before the poles snapped. All tall tents will suffer in the wind.

hi, we bought the avignon 6 last july. we only got a chance to use it for a couple of days last season but we were really happy with it. We had a thunderstorm the first night and it held up fine. There are five of us and we had plenty of room. The groundsheet covers the whole tent.

We saw the av6 at our local outlet about 3 weeks ago when it was blowing really hard. This tent was top of our list last year but after seeing it get flattened I'm glad we went for the monty6. It's true, the tent did pop back into shape between gusts, but I've got a 2 year old and would imagine this would scare her (especially if it happened in the night.)

we've got the royal toulouse 9, only put it up yesterday, loads of space with 4 bedrooms, easy to put up as well, seen one the other day for £99 on the internet can't remember the website though, sorry.

Most tents will break in really windy weather we went to woolacombe the year before last and our argos pro action nevada tent steel poles snapped as did quite a few other type of dome tents the field we found no problem with the royal avignon so far

Umm ... we have the Royal Avignon 6 Plus and I know the problem with the back end bowing in. The later designs such as the 2007 model have an extra guy rope at the back that holds the end up and it seems to work fine. If the wind comes from the side it is no problem, only the ends catch the wind and it does bow down a lot on the older model. However they always bounce back up again and you get used to it, the sheer size and amount of room inside are absolutely fantastic and I'd always go for another of these type of tents over the cramped and airless dome tents again. It really feels far roomier inside than the dome tents, even the really large ones with pods at all angles around the centre.
